Just a quick reminder to all those going and also us watching the game on SKyyyyy, the Phoenix Nights spin-off, "Max & Paddy" is on C4 tonight!

Its highly anticipated - i.e. it will probably be crap...

Ally Ross said in the Sun yesterday the first episode is a disappointment.

He does come across as a bit of a pr*ck but his TV views are usually spot on.

Yeah, to be honest KG, I'm not hoping for much! As much as I love Phoenix Nights and especially Max and Paddy, I reckon this is gonna fall flat on its arse...

They should have done Phoenix Nights 3...

The preview in this morning's Metro was promising. As an avid fan of Pheonix Nights I am very much looking forward to it. Don't know when I'll get to see it though as I'm videoing the game tonight - I'm sure it will be repeated on E4 over the weekend though.

I couldnt really get into Phoenix Nights. But I saw an ad on TV about Max and Paddy and it did look good. I'll look forward to watching it next Friday

I wouldnt read what other journalististic type people would think of it, cos usually they think the complete opposite to what you do.

Got the video set up for Max and Paddy and the Simpsons before it...

I think most of Peter Kay's stuff you have to watch 3 or 4 times to get everything, it's normally pretty quick.

"How much? For Pasties? They've trebled in price, what's in 'em, Venison?"

I really like Peter Kay - went to see him a year or so ago on his 'mum wants a new bungalow' tour and his John Smiths adverts are class but could never get into Phoenix nights. I will wait to see what Max and Paddy is like next week as I will be taping a little football match that is on sky sports tonight!!

For me it was the other way round, I really loved the first series of Pheonix Nights before a work colleague lent me a copy of the Blackpool Tower live video.

A group of us went to the Mum Wants A Bungalow tour, I was in tears of laughter the whole way through. Almost every single reference to his childhood was spot on - must be because I am a similair age to him. If you are 25-35 see how many of the following ring a bell -

- Sitting in front of the radiator having had a bath on Sunday evening eating your 'Sunday Tea' (with Mr Kipling Cakes) and watching Bullseye.
- Those plastic video cassette holders that were supposed to look like books (but failed).
- Your Mum buying huge 3 litre bottles of crap cola from the supermarket because it 'tastes exactly the same as Coca-Cola'. It always went flat within a day of being opened!

there were loads more as well, he's a very funny man!

I normally work friday nights so I'll miss it then, but its repeated on E4 at 10 but I'll be doing my lifeguard training.

I was really looking forward to seeing it. Its gonna be class, like Green Wing.

to add:

- little boys sliding on their knees at weddings
- 'CHEESE CAKE!!'
- those essential questions that you HAVE to ask a taxi driver when you get into a cab 'been busy?' and 'what time are you on till?'
- hob nobs, the SAS of the biscuit world!!

Well, wasnt as bad as I expected!

Paddy: "Pick a number between 1 and 10"

Girl: "...8"

Paddy: "Sorry. you loose... take off your tops"

Girl: "f**k Off!"

--------------------------

Max: "Theres a lot of sailors in here... its like Pear Harbour"

Paddy: " 8 O'Clock Pearl Harbour, 10 O'Clock Pearl Necklace"

I was disappointed. Not nearly as subtle and intelligent as Pheonix Nights or as laugh out loud as his stand up. Hope it improves as the series goes on.

Yea, it was a bit more 'in ya face'... a lot of the subtle humour in PN is from Brian Potter with his sly jabs and cutting dialogue - Max and Paddy are a bit more down to earth!

I'm sure PK said there would be cameo's in Max and Paddy from the PN gang, so hopefully Kenny Snr or maybe Brian himself will turn up.

What would have been better is have a running story through the series carrying on from PN - cos in the last PN, Max and Paddy drove off in the van on the run from the hitmen the woman had hired to do them in. That could have been a theme where the hitmen are always trying to catch them...
