New striker won't be Byfield

The deadline is looming large but another one of our targets signs for somebody else.

Byfield signed a year with Bristol City.

BBC News

Is Jevons still there? Wonder if he fancies a shot at 1st team football after the arrival of Trundle & Byfield?

there is another thread about this... jevons is still there and i wonder if he would fancy it. however part of me wants to keep the faith with what we have and reassess the situation at christmas. macdonald and harrold confidence must be high and so to say to them.. lead the line, we aren't signing anyone in this window might be the kick that they need to go on and get some goals. i would have hoped if we were to sign someone it would have been done... no more panic buys tilly!

I think we're done for signings and will have to survive on what we have, at least until the window opens again.

Lets hope Charlie Mac & Harrold come good again.

I'm sorry, but at the moment (from what I've seen so far this season) I have little faith in our forward line.
I hope they change my opinions this season....

the last two games harrold as probably played the best i've ever seen from him, and macdonalds movement and vision means we saw glipses of our first decent strike-partnership since freddy-goater. we can do better than harrold, especially if we have asperations of promotion but even if we got someone in would they automatically get in the team? i just don't want us to panic into buying someone for them to get few chances and be a waste of money (a la paynter/foran)... instead if we cant find the right players then showing some faith in our present strikers will probably be the best option

The striking partnership on Tuesday was good, both are aware of where the other is and i thought harrold pulled the defence around very well creating plenty of holes. Best i have seen from him yet!!!, keep it up Matt your growing in confidence with every game. Lets get behind these guy's and give them our support, build up em up not break them down !!!!!

I haven't seen the last two games, my comments were based on what I'd seen so far in the season before then (and to a lesser extent the pre-season)

The prospect of Byfield hardly got my juices flowing anyway, it an old subject now but every club in the world wants that 20 a season striker and Im afraid there aint that many about, I honestly believe that Maccy D will score if given the service, he knows where the goal is he was 2nd/3rd not sure top scorer in the conference and as we have seen in recent years it not too big a jump from that level to ours(bentley, freddy, kightly with wolves,) we just need to feed him.

Feed the Mac and he will score!

He was second top scorer behind Daggers Paul Benson.

The gap between the conference and league is getting bigger though - look how the promoted sides have struggled recently (Carlisle excepted) - and to go from the conference straight to league 1 is a big jump: remember Freddy and Benno had gone up the divisions with the club and Kightly is just an exceptional case.

Didn't realise, had a quick look for Byfield threads but I guess the news is hidden in one of the other 10 or so "desperate for a striker" threads that are ongoing!

probably.. i really meant "it's being discussed somewhere else" if you were interested!

Jevons is still there, he was on the bench last night when they played Man City.

...and fell over when a Man City defender breathed on him when he came on as a sub last night.

I can't say I've ever really liked him as a player because he always goes down like the proverbial sack of spuds in and around the area, but there's no question that he'd score and make goals for us.

I noticed that too. It was laughable. Would be better suited playing for Borient IMO
