New Stad

Heard this from source...

Park and ride scheme being thought about for new stadium as well as for town centre, which is currently a field somewhere in S'end(sorry cant remember where he said).

Prittlewell Station will also be majorly upgraded and made bigger.

This is from a reliable source in the know about these things!

Sorry if old news.

Makes sense as prittewell will be the major station as southend central will be to far, and park and ride was always gonna be a must in my eyes

Park & Ride schemes are now part of the criteria for all new stadia I believe.

Where on earth would one be built though...

The only place I could think of would be further down Eastern Avenue past Garons golf course, along Bournes Green Chase, heading towards the Angel pub, on that huge plot of land that's been up for sale for years...

Roght smack on top of camp bling would be a good place to start

...... ok, i know it's not big enough but it's the thought that counts
wink.gif

If it's going to happen, which to my mind it has to, it's got to be sufficiently as far out of town as possible to eleviate the congestion that's bound to spring up and with an already established road link to the proposed site, and at the moment I cannot for the life of me think of anywhere suitable.

Southchurch Park East, on Lifstan Way - It's then just a Straight run up Hamstel Road, turn left at McDonalds, past Waitrose and your at the ground.

Can't see that working very well. A Park & Ride scheme needs to be postioned before you get to the ground. How many Park & Ride schemes have you used that you go past your destination and get a bus back to it?

The majority of supporters that would use a Park & Ride would be coming from the West and would have to drive right past the ground. Most would be tempted to use nearby street parking rather than drive down to the seafront.

Anyway new ground is still probably at least 3 years away so plenty of time to sort something out.

I wonder how RM's stadium fact finding mission is getting on? Isn't he flying round the world looking at Stadiums. I expect we will get an announcement at the start of the season as to the new design

I agree. Plus, planning permission for the new airport railway station is already in place I believe. Loads of parking??? That would be better than a cramped Prittlewell, however, it may not be ready until our bi-centeniary.

Excellent, I'd been planning to start using the private jet to come to home games...

The NIMBYS would be furious!

But didn't Ron build some houses just up the road from there, he must know the area?

Do you mean there would be a park and ride for supporters to get into the highstreet?
rock.gif
Theres so many streets around the stadium i can't see this kicking off? Who'd be tempted to park in Waitrose carpark instead

They have just (last week) started building work on the Old College Sports Fields (adjacent to the Lifstans Boys Club).

I believe RM had/has an interest in this site.

The airport idea is good becuase of the new rail link, but i think residents would oppose the idea, having the amount of traffic in the quiet area, when the stadium is atleast 10/20 mins away from them.

If i drove i'd park my car near roots hall where my parents park and just walk down there, its only a 10/15 mins stroll down the road.

I understood that part of the plan for the development of the Airport was to remove both Prittlewell and Rochford Stations and build a new bigger station at the Airport. This is included in the 2012 transportation infrastructure document prepared for the Olympics. I cannot therefore see Prittlewell station as being part of the stadium plan, at least in the longer term. A park and Ride scheme is being implemented I understand for Southend town centre in any case, this is independent of the relocation of the ground. There will be two P&R car parks one on A13 and one on A127. I suppose that on match days they will have some extra buses heading for the stadium.

So your saying that on anyday you will not be able to park in the highstreet?

or this just supporters.

because there are going to be more carparks built in the highstreet, including the revamped victoria plaza.

would be stupid if you could not park in your own town cente?
