New Romantics

New Romantics.

I was only about 10 when the whole thing came about;

Duran Duran, Japan, Kajagoogoo, Steve Strange etc,

f**king hated the whole thing and it leaves a shiver down my spine when i think about it, anyone enjoy this cosmetically enhanced period of U.K history?

Nope could not stand it, I was also about 10. I was just discovering hard rock mainly due to my older sister dating a metalhead and as most younger siblings do, copying her records on to tape to listen to on my new walkman.

No, hated it - total and utter b******s. I was always more a mini-Madness fan during the earlier part of the 80's and started to listen to John Peel under the bedclothes towards the later part so my musical tastes were quite far removed from the New Romantic scene. The whole 80's revival thing doesn't appeal to me either - pop-culture wise I've always looked on that decade as the one that taste forgot so don't see the point in bringing it back. I know it's a nostalgia thing, people looking back to a time they grew up and were happy and carefree. But I had a perfectly happy and carefree childhood in the 80's but can still see that the music and fashion was sh*te!

I didn't have a choice - used to share a room with my brother so was treated to a daily diet of Duran Duran & Spandau Ballet, with the odd bit of Madness & Specials thrown in for good measure.
Although he did slightly upgrade his ( and my ) taste with Depeche Mode's 'Speak & Spell' and Heaven 17's 'Penthouse & Pavement'

I'd love to Lee, but I've got tickets for The Darkness at Wembley Arena that night.

Oh dear, I could be crucified for this.

I wouldn't necessarily say that I loved it but I grew up with it and it is my personal association with the early 80s.

I love most 80's music, I've been watching bits of Bands Reunited on VH1. They did try and get ABC back together on one of them but only Martin Fry and the original drummer came back.

How could you not love all that 80's stuff.I thought it was great and lots of fun to sing along to when your drunk.Just remember you were working as a waitress in a cocktail bar when i met you.

New Romantics?! Bunch of poofs we used to give a good old "shoo-ing" after rolling out of the 'Monkey Club' down at the Westcliff Leisure Centre's West One Bar; a great night of The Jam, Clash, Sham 69, etc, etc. closely following by listening to some puke in make-up pleading for his life!!

The New Romantics decdied to infiltrate the punk scenes at Dagenham, The Greyhound and Regency pubs etc and as Jávea says, likewise, they were shown the door...ahem.
I saw the guitarist of Duran Duran in a concert once, weren't bad, quite heavy, but the nearest I got to the scene was the Damned and Siouxie in their Gothy days.

In the early 80's I was into the soul scene, attending clubs like The Goldmine, Zero 6, Flicks - dartford, Old Windmill - Hanningfield etc

Im an early 80's kid and I used to listen to music like Adam and the Ants, Aztec Camera, Spandau Ballet, Nik Kershaw, Haircut 100 etc. I also loved listening to other genres such as Madness and The Clash etc

I love going to Reflex just to listen to all this stuff again. Brings back memories
