New Harry Potter film

Have loved all the films, this is one case where they have tried to stay pretty close to the books throughout the series. Probably too middle of the road for a lot on here, but having kids growing up through the time the books and films have come out means that we are, unusually as a family, united in wanting to go and see this.

Yeah I'm excited. Was a very big cynic of Potter and refused to read any of them until the third film blew me away with its "Back to the future" style storyline. Then I read 4, 5, 6 and 7 and loved all of them.

Not the best books ever, but great entertainment. And I personally think the films are well done too; showcasing the best that British talent has to offer.

I've heard PoA be called a lot of things.

Back to the Future isn't one of them.

It's a good Teaser trailer. With any luck we'll get the proper trailer in a couple of months.

The first two were dire (from a movie's perspective, as adaptations of the books they're great), but they've picked up since.

Well, you know, without giving too much away, the whole theme of time travel and affecting your own life by making tiny changes to the past (like BTTF)

I suppose yeah, it's kind of like that (I've read all the books, got all the films, so no need to hide stuff on my part).

That's true of the books though, first two were quite innocent, it wasn't until the introduction of the darker stuff with the Dementors and Sirius in the Prisoner of Azkaban that the whole thing picked up. It's one of my favourites.

I always re-read the whole series before any new film, knowing the size of the more recent books I'd better start pretty soon!

I watched the 1st film and the 5th one the other day, couldnt believe how kiddy the first film was, Agree with you OBL they have got much better since they brought the darker stuff into it.

Alfonso Cuaron. Went on to do City of Men.

Thank JK Rowling more like. There were plans for a animated film with Haley Joel Osmond as the voice of Harry.

Blasphemy if you ask me.

Will it be Voldemort in disguise and will Harry Plopper save the day.

Yes and yes. No need to see the over-rated tosh.

Kudos on JK getting kids reading again, but they are VERY average books IMHO and there's plenty of kids books that are far superior.

Noughts & Crosses, His Dark Materials trilogy for example.

No, no, no! This one's got a bit of a twist, and I shall be there armed with a box of tissues to mop the tears up that the ending will bring!

You flippin' editted that!

Harry Potter is a much easier read than His Dark Materials, the whole concept with the daemons is so different. Again though the first one is a lot more straightforward than the other two, especially the last one, quite liked the Subtle Knife though. I thoroughly enjoy the HP books, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. And working in a school, it's important to be able to talk with the kids on their level so a thorough knowledge of the books is a must!

I think I must be the only person in the world who didn't like these books.

Maybe it was all the glowing accolades they got and the fact it took me 4 years to get round to reading them, but they were very 'Lord of the Rings' in terms of the pattern they followed (which again, I'm not sure many folks would agree with); 1 - quite kiddy, has its moments, 2 - gets a lot darker and is the best of the series with some great ideas, 3 - loses its way, descends into repetition and ended up boring the arse off me...
