New Ground

I know there is a fossetts section but thought a wider opinion may promote discussion, With the decision on the ground due very soon I would like to ask the question......What if the government say NO, where does that leave the club and its plans for growth/expansion into a well esablished CCC side and beyond, Will Ron sell up and **** off and build a load of flats elsewhere, I personally believe that redevelopment of roots hall would be the only answer.

Redevelopment of all but the South stand would be the only option I can see. IT would be possible to bump the capicity to the region of 15,000 i should imagine and for now that would be enough. I cannot see us filling a 22,000 stadium anyhow.

The problem with redevloping RH is that we do not have the money to do it.

My thoughts too, the future could be dark indeed, our clubs future in some government officials hands

If we were to redevelop the ground, wouldn't we probably have to ground share with another team and with whom would that be? Gillingham, Borient, Col Ewe?!

To redevelop Roots Hall would probably cost at least 20m where would the money come from?

We would struggle to get planning permission to build any decent sized stands apart from maybe on the existing East Stand.

what do people think the chances are of the goverment officials turning down the fossets plans?

Probably about 50-50 I would have thought. They might say yes and then again they might say no... we'll all just have to sit tight until we hear something - I suspect they'll delay the announcement as well! :p

i really hope they accept the proposals if not i cant us not being able to acttract the right type of player and slipping down the league until were back playing maccasfield with 3,000 fans.

Sorry but I can't - at least not in the near future. We may not have seen the last of the bottom division but even staying at RH we should be able to sustain third-tier football.

I dont want to sound all doom and gloom about this but, if the FF plans are turned down, we will most likely go into administration. Redeveloping RH is a non starter as there is no way of getting more revenue into the club from the site. the reason FF is feasible is that there are other commercial opportunites in and around the site (retail, hotel, residential etc). The club have borrowed heavily on the strength of the plans being approved and I cannot believe that we will be able to sustain ourselves without the new ground becoming a reality. We would probably become the next Luton. Lets not dwell on that for too long though eh? Because the stakes are so high, RM has been determined to get everyone behind him. Saying that the planning decision is the biggest result in the club's history is no understatement, if we lose, the club could very well be history!

On what basis would the club not be able to continue as a going concern if planning permission is not granted?

To what extent have we borrowed then and in what form? Have we actually geared up all that much in recent times?

I would rather have our smaller east stand compared to Orients heinous main stand!

I dont think thats the case at all.

New grounds being agreed is the norm these days, the planning inspector seemed very positive and the plan had the backing of the council.

I think its far more likely to be agreed.

As to what would happen if they say no I dont think RH is an option, as said already theres no money to do it and even if there was theres no way of increasing revenue without the retail and hotel.

I think Ron Martin would leave as he wouldnt be able to do anything with the club and it would just be a money pit again.

If it gets agreed we have an exciting future with capacity to grow, if it doesnt I think the chances of a new ground in the next 5 years disappear totally and we are confined to mediocrity.

However I remain optimistic!

Then surely that shows the level of confidence about the project? Personally I think it will be approved, can anyone think of any reasons why it wont? Both councils are in for a start.........

Added to that there wasn't a single objection lodged either so logic says there really is no reason why we shouldn't get it.

Because the government might see it differently?
As it is a conservative council that passed the plans, I wouldn't put it past the current powerbrokers of the country to reject a high-profile planning case on those grounds! :p ;)
