New Financial Regulations

Surprised this hasn't been posted on here.

In my opinion, I think this needs to be a world football rule, and not just in England. A step in the right direction, but maybe a few seasons too late. There are silly wages flying about now and I still can't believe that players like Walcott and Samba are on £100k a week.

Scudamore confirmed there would be an "absolute prohibition" on teams reporting losses of more than £105m over the next three years, with the first sanctions possible in 2016.

Why not punish teams who make any loss? £105m loss over 3 years is hardly likely to make the league more competitive.

I would still prefer to see an NFL type salary cap. Have a squad of 24 players and a maximum yearly wage bill of £65 million. If you spend £10 million on 1 star player would mean you had to go a lot cheaper in other areas of the team. If you want to sign a new player, you have to let another player leave to keep the squad numbers the same.

Operate the same system on a sliding scale all through the divisions. Its ridiculous that when a season starts only 3 teams can win the premier league. Three teams will fight for 4th place, 6 teams will battle to stay away from relegation. The days of a Villa or Forest winning the league will never return under the present system.

105million sounds a lot but Chelsea and Man City wouldnt have been able to rise so quickly with a 105m limit.

Having it set to any loss would mean the poorer clubs were even less able to compete.

It will certainly level the playing field, but will still allow the little teams to build up some pretty big debts, so its good for competition but not on the face of it a great handle on stabilising football clubs.

Man Utd/Man City were both 19 points clear of their nearest challenger (Arsenal) last year. To make any kind of impact you'd have to make these deductions severe enough to impact on a Champions League spot.

Also for me this brings a European league closer - Chelsea, Man City/Utd etc will just stick two fingers up at the Prem.

Thing is Man Utd achieve what they do without the ridiculous spending Man City and Chelsea do/have done, so the restrictions wont really apply to them as much.

Cant see any clubs forming a European league, that would lose its appeal very quickly.
