First time poster here - I can't get to any games but I try and keep up with what's going on via SZ and some other boards. I followed tonight's game on BBC's live text thing but obviously you only get a very one dimensional idea of what's happening on the pitch. Aside from all the antics involving the 'either you love him or hate him' Bilel, I was interested to hear how Neil Harris is doing. It was good to get him to Roots Hall and I was impressed with what I saw of him on the Club's web site but the question is does he look comfortable playing for The Blues and is his experience being of benefit to the team? Alternatively, is it too early to tell? I'm hoping those of you that have seen him in action can offer your opinions. Cheers!

Poor bugger dont get a ball played to his feet so has made little impact so far.

332 minutes on the field and no goals as yet, but has shown glimpses that he will do well with very little service. Hope he hasnt come here a few years too late tbh, but think he will turn it around. Dickinson has outperformed Harris in 3 of the 4 games so far this season, according to most fans, and seems to be the more impressive of the strikers so far.

We aren't supplying him correctly! That's why he hasn't had any chances, we need to slip balls through to his feet in behind the oppo's defence but we aren't doing it. It's early doors though, and we did it a couple of times last night, to know prevail.

He is trying too hard to score!

Exactly this. Once he gets off the mark, I'm sure he will be fine. Plus we are all getting to know each other - once the players figure out what service he needs (or NH realises what he is actually going to get in terms of quality!) then they will adjust to it.

I've dug Neil out a bit on the match thread, but only cos I expected more from him given his history, but plenty of time for him to come good!

It's a simple one. He has been pretty anonymous through no fault of his own.

We are not using him in the way we should, at all. Not even friggin close.

There is no point in hoofing the ball up to him, as he isn't that sort of player. He will get beaten in the air most times.

When the ball is played to his feet, you can see the vision the guy has. He is one of those players who see's his next move, before he even has the ball. He is a playmaker and a fox in the box. But we are not playing to those strengths at all.

A complete waste of a clever and talented player.

we are *ucking it up for neil by playing it all wrong for him, if we play football and build the play culminating in a good cross/decent pass/forward interplay then neil will stick the ball in the net, if we keep knocking long balls into channels for a 34 year old to try and chase down then neil will not stick the ball in the net, thats pretty much it in a nutshell.

I know I am definitely going to get struck down for this comment but Blair would be a good option upfront with Harris...just sayin' like!

I said to my mates last night that Blair would have been a good option last night as we werent holding the ball up at all and he would have done that.

Of course I was then piled into a hessian sack and beaten with sticks, but just saying like...

Had he been wearing the number 21 shirt then he'd have been castigated for his performances so far. Instead, everyone seems willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and suggest that he needs better service. He's shown some nice touches and whilst he's been ahead of the game mentally, physically he's been struggling to keep up.

Playing Sawyer behind Harris will make all the difference , he's about our only midfielder who would see the runs Harris makes and the only one with the ability to supply the passes . After all he was bought up at chelsea so he has been taught well and is used to a better class of player .

This.

Let's not jump on the Sawyer bandwagon too early. Lee needs to build his confidence up; at the moment, he wants too many touches of the ball, or he runs and holds onto it a little too long (the percentage of Lee's sideways dribbles with no end product has gone up of late - and that's a confidence thing).

If Sawyer can get his confidence levels up and start pinging first-time balls into space for Harris / Dickinson to run onto, then we'll really be onto something.

Harris seems a bit clever for our team currently. He knocks nice balls off, like he did for Halls cross against Hereford, but nobody bright enough to read his balls... Dickinson and Harris played too close last night..
I dont feel its working... It feels like Freedman when he arrived. Plenty of guile but no opportunity to use it..

YEP! Nobody could get the ball on the floor and that's what he does! Shame he is injured or may have featured. Could have been a different game. Big Dicko was holding it up in the first half until he was smashed about due to having to challenge for stupid long balls!
Ohwell Big Bad Bazza and Big Bad Blair will be back soon, they'd start in my team! Jus' sayin'!

However I do rate Big Dicko, and Harris, just think we may need a little bit of a change already to just try bits out!

Like Grant ?

We certainly need someone who can pass the ball in midfield but dont see Sawyer getting in before Grant or Kalalalalalala neither of which are creative enough.

id like to give that Paul Sturrock a ****ing good hiding after last nights shambless, poor neil wasnearly in tears on the phone to my boy, he cant wait to score infronnt of the fans and has a special little dance all ready for hsi first goal, he said he would have liked to have scored last night infornt of such a huge away following

god does that mean he wont be scoring until the AFC Wimbledon as thats the next time we have such a big turn out

Its not working because the game we are playing does'nt fit in with his. From what I've seen his touch is first rate but his vision is a bit too advanced for the players around him at the moment. And we need to get the ball down more.
