National Rail Strike

Seeing as I have the Easter week off of work and will be wanting to head away over the Easter weekend by train, I just wondered whether there was anyone on here who had a bit of know about the proposed strike?

As always you read the newspaper articles: Union - "Conditions aren't good enough, majority chose to strike, hit them where it hurts", National Rail - "Poor voting turn out, Will ruin millions of peoples weekends, aren't being realistic".

So I just wondered whether anyone out there could give me any info as to whether they think the strike will be called off over the Easter weekend and everything will be resolved?

Cheers

No chance of it being called off. NR management won't back down from trying to change years of terms & conditions and making job cuts despite the ORR telling Coucher & his cronies we're down to the bare bones.

I can see it getting worse before it gets better.

Trains will be at a standstill at Easter.

Ah... Is this all but confirmed?

The doris is arriving for Easter but will have to drive if this is the case. I would prefer if she didn't she is going to be driving all weekend... driving me right round the bend!!

Not confirmed but from the mouth of Red Bobby C: "I'm not Mystic Meg, but don't book any travel arrangements over Easter!"

As ever in such situations it's the paying customer that suffers the most. Despite the crocodile tears on both sides neither give a flying one about the punters.

Its a sad state of affairs that its had to come to this, and yes, the travelling public will unfortunately suffer, but it'd be nice if the media looked critically at Network Rail management and their methods which is generally manipulation of statistics, media spin and bullying the staff into worse condition than we had 40+ years ago while Coucher & his ilk cream in vast salaries and bonuses.

Why should railway workers be any different from workers in any other sector. Bring in Cameron and get rid of these bloody trouble making unions!!! Then if the railway workers wanna strike, fire em and employ serbians!

Sad state of affairs, or another opportunity for a bunch of uppity, work shy minnions to down tools for a couple of days?

People have chosen to lose several days wages, a large part of their bonus and overtime in this financial climate.

So yes, it's a sad state of affairs as nobody wants to strike.

Yeah, great idea. I'm sure Serbian railways are as safe as the one that takes you to work every day.

Not.

whoops this has totally passed me by, i am mean to be coming up next friday on the train for the weekend, without doing some heavy research can anyone tell me if they think any trains will be running from london to southend on good friday?

Yes, I think you will.

We've got an event in London on 1st, and Uncle Bob has had a little word with us suggesting it might be an idea to move the date.

You could have a joint event. Seeing as none of you can be bothered to work, why not have a **** off great big party in Trafalgar Square? You could invite British Gas, and get some BA Cabin Crew to go as well so that the party is a good one, with fanny.

Honestly, I amaze myself at my comical genius.

Yeah, except we can't get there.

Though I like the idea of fanny. I'll see if we can't get some down to my picket line in the morning.

I don't like being a smug git, however as the UK has descended into a 70's style malaise of economic meltdown, industrial action and a harsh cold winter it has been comforting to realise just what a great decision it was to make the move out here when I did......;)
