M'voto

Angell Delight

Life President
Anyone know when he'll be fit? Think I saw somewhere that he was coming back to Essex this week but no word if he'll be available for Friday's game.

I hope he's fit for Friday, no disrespect to Sankofa who I've heard had a good game at Stockport but with Rickie Lambert in town and after his one man demolition of us last season I'd like M'Voto back in the defence to beef it up a little.

Was thinking the same even before tonights shambles.

Well that was exactly my thinking, we could certainly do with his aerial presence up against Lambert.

Would just like to add though that (having shuddered when I first saw Sankofa pencilled in for centre-back at Brentford) Ozzy has surprisingly impressed me alongside Barrett - he seems to have matured into a half-decent player in that position since last season and I would consider him adequate cover for the Barrett/M'voto pairing if this form is not a flash in the pan.

I'm pleased that Osei has been getting good reviews as I think he comes in for a bit of unfair critisism on here.

As I mentioned I meant nothing against him by saying I'd like M'Voto back in but Lambert is a bulldozer and I think Osei is only 5ft 10.

I would even consider swapping Francis and Sankofa around for this one to add Francis' height, ok you lose his attacking threat but I'd rather have the clean sheet.

See what you mean,Francis better in the air, but unless we play a winger it all goes pearshaped down the righthand side, when we dont play Francis at right back.

No disrespect to Sankofa who I think has done well in the two games I have seen. However since Sankofa came into the team we have shipped goals at an alarming rate. We really need a commanding centre back like M Voto back soon rather than later.

hmm...

games with M'Voto at CB
Played 6, conceded 8 (League only: 4 games, 4 goals)

games with Sankofa (CB or RB)
Played 5, conceded 7 (League only: 4 games, 5 goals)

So not too much in it really.

(note that stats include the brighton match for btoh players as they had a half each)

Hmm, we've conceded 5 goals in the 4 1/2 games Sankofa's played, 3 of which have been pens. A tad harsh I think Dave

Damm the stats. I dont know I just think were better with m Voto than with Sankofa then.

I'm hoping that if Laurent starts wide right on Friday night that Sankofa gets moved to right back and Francis back into the centre.

Sankofa and Grant nope, but Sankofa behind Laurent is a must for me currently.

Am i right in saying the last specialised centre back we signed was Gary Richards ? If its true its pathetic the amount of problems we have had there !

Granted Lambert murdered us at their place with 4 goals, but having a proper centre half like Dervite against him at Roots Hall and he didn't look to have much about him. Thats exactly why we need M'Voto fit.

Barrett and Clarke where made to look silly by Lambert at their place, and I can see it being a similiar story if its Barrett and Sankofa/Francis against him.

Yes when he played at RH last season he looked very poor and not at all interested but I put that down to it being January and him probably wanting out at Bristol Rovers.

Yes and the last left back was Stevie Hammell. Weve probably bought and sold about 20 strikers in that time.

Would certainly hope Mvoto is fit but I'm not holding out much hope.

Whatever partnership we currently field has the makeshift look about it and we need a dominant centre half back there as soon as possible.
If we only had the budget available for one more defender, then Tilson made another mistake in bringing in Friend.
We already had 2 left backs in the squad but no cover at centre half, we are now paying the price even if Osei has performed admirably apart from one stupid moment.

I think that Barrett alongside M'Voto has looked an impressive central defensive pairing. Their performances against Leeds at home was top draw. Barrett is such a better defender when his not partnered with Peter Clarke.

We only have one left back in the squad, Herd and his only 19 and had a bit of a horrorshow last night by the sounds of it. Herd will be our first choice left back next season I reckon, but we will see a few more loanees play there this season until Herd is ready for a full season.

Yes I agree with that but when I said we already had 2 left backs, I was including Barrett in that.
Whilst not looking the most natural of fullbacks, our record is very good when he plays there. Personally I would have looked at getting in another centre half in the Dervite mould to play alongside Mvoto and move Barrett to left back with Herd as cover.
