Mulgrew....better?

I would just like to go on record, having been very disheartened by Charlie Mulgrew's performances in his first three games, that I thought he looked a lot better today. Perhaps it was the standard of the opposition but he certainly seemed more in control today than in the past. On the Contrary, I thought the Hunt Francis things was very poor. If Hunt has any decent position, we have already established it isnt full back, as he seems to drift into the middle. Yesterday, we had the situation where Hunt drifted in and Francis drifted out! Thought Barnard was immense though...just think what he will be like when fit! Anthony Grant looked good too.....

Well you can see my thoughts on Hunt / Francis in Wiggy's ratings thread. Mulgrew is an odd one. Looked better for sure, but he really was terrible at Millwall so that isn't a great compliment. Needs to always cut back onto his left which will mean he gets found out quickly too, but did look better yesterday I thought too.

Have to disagree there. I thought that hunt played reasonably well and that simon francis given games (wont happen) at centre back he could be a real assett.
Mulgrew just looked like what he is. Young inexperienced and all left foot.Lost the ball a few times trying to beat his man twice.

mulgrew played really well in his first game against orient, but then had a few dodgy games, think he will get better though with time and matches.

I didn't see him at orient, but against two of the worse teams imo I think he has done okay, not great. People are saying he's got height, but hammel used to win alot in the air, suprisingly, and Mulgrew misjudged a few at millwall

A lot of potential especially if he learns that the right foot is not just for supporting his body :thump:

its very strange as it is clear he is very one footed yet he continues to turn onto his right foot. still i do like the look of him.

I like the look of him, and he just needs to settle into the team. His still learning the games of people around us. Very clearly is just left footed but I like what I have seen so far.

On another note, I was really impressed with Grant when he came on vs Bournemouth. Obviously not a right winger, but had a few decent touches out there.
