Mr Martin

Do you think that he is considering that he will sack Tilly and Brush. What other manager in the football league would avoid the chop if they were on a bad run like we are on.I know Tilly is loyal but maybe is time is up.

Who would you bring in though who would do a better job? And that is a serious question, not a dig.

My choice would be Nigel Wothington.
I didn't think that you were, BH. Personally I think we have to back Tilly for next season, but If he fell on his sword/under a bus/got banged up for GBH on Duguid, RM would need to find a new manager, so it can't be that inappropriate to discuss who would be available.

My worry is that the type of manager we need wouldn't touch us with a barge pole, and we would be left to pick and choose from the rejects, failures, or untried ex-players - and could we get lucky twice with one of those?

Worthington is a good shout, just not sure that he would want the challenge that we represent.

I can't think of another manager who I think would do a better job. Anyone who's doing well in League one wouldn't want to move to us. Maybe teams doing well in League Two. I suppose Andy Ritchie is avaliable after he was harshly sacked at Barnsley. Dowie perhaps?

Regardless of replacements, the constant chopping and chnaging of managers is never going to have a positive impact on the team. I believe we had about 23 managers in twenty years before Tilson came in and the lack of continuity means that a manager never has enough time to build his team.

I say Worthington - he's experienced at this level, proven quality and just overstayed his welcome at Norwich.

Could we afford him? Can we afford not to try...

Dowie and Worthington are good calls, but do you
think either would come here?

Personally i say continue with Tilly for a bit longer and see what happens

Judging on the vast majority of your comments on this board you seem to be absolutely clueless about football - it hardly gives you a right to say martin isn't a football man.

Quite frankly, forget tilson, forget freddy etc, with out martin there would be no southend united, let alone us playing in the championship.

CS J - I think you need to establish a little logic. Opinions are one thing, but downright negativity and blinkered thinking is not the way forward.

You really do have an uncanny knack of making yourself look rather stupid, CS J. I think most people would acknowledge that these days there are very, very few businessmen in charge of football clubs who could pass a perceived "football man" entrance test. To survive in the modern era, clubs need to be run by those who are financially astute, providing a solid base from which the club can be developed. Some clubs (like Wigan Athletic and Reading) have benefited from a very generous injection of money from their respective benefactors; Ron Martin never claimed that he would do the same and I sincerely doubt he is in a position to do so, even if he wanted to. However, he does appear to have implemented a long-term plan for the club (although I don't think that Championship football so soon was taken into account) which could be considered to be somewhat unique for a club of the stature of the Blues. Survive at all costs? I hope not. Survive to fight another day? I hope so. CS J asks us to remember that Martin is not a football man; on the subject of recollection it is interesting to remember that when the Martin Dawn / Delancey business venture took full control of Southend United, there were a number of fans who proclaimed that the end would be nigh and the club would be dead within a few years. I seem to recall that there was one user called 'The Spotter' (or something very similar; my mind is rather vague on the issue of nomenclature) who orchestrated a vile diatribe (thankfully shortlived) against the new ownership, declaring their intentions to close down the football club; I wonder where he might be at the moment? We may be bottom of the Championship but we are in a far better position OFF the pitch, are we not?
