Life is just too short...I have had the displeasure to attend 2 funerals since New Year. Mums and Grandmums or ourselves will not be here on this planet for long.

If you might have lost in the drive/garden area, then get hold of a decent metal detector and go over the likely area inch by inch. You would stand a good chance of turning it up, I have found a wedding ring for a chap in the village like that.

Back in '77 corporal in our squadron lost his ring (wedding - I wasn't in the Marines...) on exercise and had the squadron mine detector flown in by helicopter to find it. Didn't turn up, but we did find a large batch of live ammo which a prior exercise armoury NCO clearly hadn't bothered booking back in. :p

PS - will happily post my metal detector over to you, but you would need to fix the handle before you could use it.

I lost mine in a nightclub and some git picked it up and didn't hand it in.
I know how you feel but it was replacable as i found out later after time.
The wife understood but i had no ring on for like 3weeks and she never noticed!!
Like you say,had to tell her eventually.
