Station Garage next to Southend Central opposite Sacks. They advertise at RH ask for John. You can have your MOT done while you nip down the High Street for an hour.

Go for a cheap one and suddenly your car has a loooaadd of problems.

Not necessarily.

I had mine done in August. The BMW dealership were quite clever: they rang me up to suggest I book the car in for a warranty check because the car was coming to the end of its warranty, and if they find any issues it would be dealt with for free. So I booked it in. They then asked me if I would like to have the MOT done at the same time. Now, the car is three years old and can't possibly have any MOT related issues so I said no, and found a cheaper place nearer to home. I booked it in there for the morning of the warranty check. Needless to say it sailed through.

I then took it to the BMW place for its warranty check, and apparently it needed new shocks, which were dealt with for nothing. The car was telling me it was due a service, which it wasn't as it's on long life servicing. Apparently (and this is where they did get me) it needed a brake fluid change. They did this at the same time, and charged me!

In the end I saved a tenner!

As an aside, I'm looking to lease a brand new car and replace it every three years. Bye bye MOTs!

I went to the Halfords Autocentre down Sutton Road - £30 at the mo I believe.

Halfords are shysters. Took my wife's car for it's MOT there and ti failed on a couple of things. Not a problem but their quote to put right was double anywhere else. They wanted £120 to supply and fit a back box and I got it done at Formula One for £75.

Also failed on excessive play on the front lower suspension arm. They wanted £190 to put right and I got it done at Rayleigh Motorist Centre for £90 supplied and fitted

I'd recommend Rayleigh Motorist Centre, Steve is a great lad and a top mechanic. His dad runs their MOT centre at Bellingham Lane which I only just found out and they charge £38 for an MOT with free retest. Had to pay Halfords £15 for the retest

Took my wife's Toyota to the main dealer in Chelmsford for an annual Service and MOT around 4 years back as they were doing one of their 'deals'.

The MOT was fine and Service done at the price I expected, however they called me half way through saying my water pump was leaking and they strongly recommended to replace it, at a cost of £650 ! :nope:

I knew that it was not losing fluid and temp was always spot on so I said no thanks as politely as I could. Few weeks later talking to a work colleague, said the very same Toyota main dealer had tried to rob them for a water pump too... You just can't trust anyone - OEM dealers are some of the worst...

Blimey when I saw the title I was expecting some Keith Lemmon style filth not a load of toss about Cars! What has the world come to:Worthy::angry::angry:
