MOT Centre

Steptoe's in Shoebury (I jest not) have been alright for me
(I have known the owner for years so that might help)

Matt, they used to do all the work on my superior German vehicle until Rod (the SUFC-mad boss) decided to retire last October.

Gerry, the panel beater and Partner also retired at the same time. Know him well and will pass on your positive comments when I see him next.

In Spain, the MOT test is called the ITV (Inspección Técnica de Vehículos) and a surprisingly large number of drivers never actually bring their cars in for testing, while many more fail to have their vehicles tested on time. Recent figures suggest that 48 per cent of cars in Spain require testing.

The problem lies in the fact that ITV test centres are few and far between. In the UK there might be a hundred registered MOT test centres in a town. In Spain there are probably only half-a-dozen PER PROVINCE! That's the equivalent to (say) six approved MOT centres in the whole of Essex!

That said, if you know the system, it can be easy. My car needed to pass the ITV this month and normally I would have to queue up at the approved ITV test centre for anything up to six or seven hours before my car would be tested. You simply can't book an appointment.

However I pay for a local garage to "pre-ITV" my car and then take it to the local ITV station (in Denia) and use their own "privilege system" to get it tested quickly. It works well.
