The way new signing John Spicer minces in midfield makes me think of long time DtS crush Scott Forbes on tranquilisers.

Which other Southend players past or present would make a SUFC most effeminate XI?

I'm thinking Slipper's old housemate, Adrian Clarke.

Scott Spencer's perm and running style makes him an automatic choice as well.

Good thread. Barry Silkman looked like a great big bird when he played for us. Glenn Pennyfather's 80s wedge and highlights combo was also quite womanly- think Princess Di but a dwarf version in an SUFC Access shirt

Stephen Clark ran like a girl
Roy McDonough had his moments too of having girls hair...albeit he looked like a really ugly girl.

There must be several in contention from the 70's for hair alone.

Phil Gridelet surely.

How dare you sir, how dare you! Grids is masculinity personified, albeit he probably did pedicures and wax his chest and was prone to taking diabolical swan dives.

Talking of which Nathan Jones.

Where best to fit Pennyfather in though?

We need some defenders (and a keeper)

John Keeley, by default, as he ended up in Brighton. He also had a dodgy barnet or two, and so it was alleged, was prone to 'tricks' in the showers.

Seconded.

And I've often remarked that Shane Westley can double as Fatima Whitbread, although I am not sure how effeminate he/she is.

Mark Beard was so skinny and gaunt looking. He ran like his legs could snap at any second.
