Went on a school jolly when I was in the lower 6th at WHSG so, many, many moons ago! At that time I'd have advised you to take plenty of chewing gum, pens and jeans for bartering but I don't think it applies now! My only tip? Avoid Russian food, it was rubbish! (Apart from the caviar!!!)

Might see you there xx

Could be a meeting of minds.:headbang:

At a company class I was doing this pm the MD told me SP was very nice(He's off to Uganda for his hols.).My brother-in-law (and his wife)have been to SP too and they rated it highly.

I've heard it is too. However I've been told its very easy to get lost, given that it is a different alphabet - much harder remembering shapes rather than remembering words.

Can't give you any specific tips though as I'm only in SP for two days, and will just pay a taxi driver for each day to take me to the main sights - usually the best way of seeing places.

One things for sure, Moscow and St Petersburg have their football team starting their season, so why not pop down to watch them play! listen for "Ooh! Ooh!" when a black player got the ball (playing for a away team) or banana thrown on the pitch at St Petersburg!!

Bars & Clubs for u to drinks and pull hot Russian girls (100 time better than girls in Southend!) at St Petersburg:

Drago, Picasso, Metro, Par.spb, Moloko, Money Honey & Fish Fabrique

Moscow:

Garage, Krysha Mira, Opera, Soho Rooms, Propaganda, Pacha & Solyanka!

These bars & clubs are heaven for single guys ;)

Have been racking my brain to find decent memories, but being as I was severely anaemic while there and was having nose bleeds in just about every building we visited, it's all kind of merging into one distant (and vodka fuelled) blur! However, I would definitely recommend the Hermitage (Winter Palace) in St Petersburg, possibly a 2 day tour if you really enjoy art as 1 wasn't enough. There's some amazing Faberge stuff there and a great collection of frescoes and Impressionist and Post Impressionist art. Also a fort in St P's, I think it was called the St Peter and St Paul fort - very interesting. There was also a space museum somewhere, possibly Moscow, which was really good. Gumms in Red Square is a must, and pause for a look at Lenin's tomb (though I'm sure you would anyway!). We were lucky, as a school visit, we also went into schools and were able to compare their education system with ours, we also visited the Kremlin and saw quite high profile ballet in both cities. It was a fabulous place to go to, definitely an experience.

I went to both recently. There's a great pub behind the Red Square with beatles photos on the walls. Drinks are expensive, and food is OK, but stick to what you know and avoid the big hotels who will charge a king's ransom. Plenty of cafes and bars. Moscow underground is great as well - cheap and full of marble and chandeliers. Try and do a river cruise in Moscow, you can see where the cannons made their marks in the Revolution. In St Pete's Hermitage is a must, we did it in 2 hours but we had to run! In June St Petes has white nights, i.e. it never gets dark - great fun. Also, keep an eye out for some great churches off the beaten track in both places. Beer can be bought from a vending machine at Moscow Airport, which is handy.
I think that's it - it can be a very expensive place to go, Russia, but if you dont go mad, a good experience.

Russian clubs are great. Some of my mates went to Drago and had a good time. I think I went to Metro - is that more of a bar? To be honest, after the vodkas we had, I cant remember.

I been to Mossgow for the England game a few years back, stayed in the The Cosmos Hotel which has a tube station, a mac ds and the best keebab shop ever. all a stone throw away.

the hotel has two bars, a chinese, casino and a large school dinner style hall along with plenty of small shops selling russian dolls

If you like a drink then russia is your place as you can pick up a beer on pretty much every street corner, all the men are war sticken but the birds are top notch!

Would highly recommend the red square and the cremlin (if spelt right) but what ever you do, do not get a english flag out on the red square as you will be shot at!

Couldnt tell you where to drink as tried not leave the hotel as had everything there plus England fan kept coming back as they been mugged and attacked.

piece of advice I would give is if you buy anything in a shop and the cashier points and money and claims its your leave it, it is a scam and they will claim you have robbed/stole it from them, also if the old bill ask for money give it to them as you will lose your passport which you need to carry round with you at all times also if asked for English money say you havent got any

properly loads more info on russia but cant remember right now

Never had any problems with police. I handed in my passport with the hotel and I was registered there. Nor did I see any scams.

I would be ok, as I got a russian girlfriend to help me around these place! She is crazy about Southend Utd, since I took her there last year!
