A few weeks ago I posted this about the Morecambe game:

But wouldn't it be ironic if our first win against them secures automatic promotion?

It's still possible.

For me the difference will be the away support. Usually not many fans travel to Morecambe, but things will be different on Saturday.

Maybe, just maybe We can do this.

Well there could not be a better time to beat Morecambe. But Morecambe........ darn it, why did it have to be Morecambe?

Once Phil recovers from the London Marathon he must plan how we are going to beat the Shrimps. Fortunately their home form has not been so good as their away form....

Are we all forgetting a very good F.A. Cup game a couple of years ago?

Morecambe 0 - Southend 3

Straker was on a hat-trick after two Strakeresque goals that only he could score and Payne came on for that game I think.

And only recently we were 1-0 up at Morecambe following a fabulous move before a mess up in defence changed the whole face of the game.

In summary, I am not phased by the past record.

Morecambe has a statue of a Luton Town supporter on the seafront. I think it would be good to adorn it with as many Southend scarves as possible. Or would the spirit of Eric turn on us?

Didnt someone break it at the ankles and has got to be repaired .

I think so. Considering the amount of unlike us things that have happened recently ie Atkinson scoring twice, a direct free kick a howler from the opposition scoring from a corner etc. its surely written in the stars that Cassidy will score after Corr flicks on a Leonard long throw!

Didn't we also break our Tuesday night hoodoo? Either way, I'm confident we will win, the spirit in the squad and a fantastic away support will see us through to League 1.

That's just daft - we would never score from a Leonard long throw - everyone knows that including the opposition. :whistling:

2 views on this. From our side, we have a shocking record against them, which must come to an end one day.
From a Morecambe fans view, we've won 7 on the bounce, which must come to an end sometime?. Just hope we can make it 8!.

Thing with these stats is they are pretty irrelevant, I doubt that many players from each side have played in many of them.

They are a bogey side for sure, but the fact we havent beaten them in the league before doesnt really count for much.

The positive thing is we are playing them away.

Posted before, but this is their AWAY record against the top sides :-

Burton - WON
Shrewsbury - LOST
Southend - WON
Bury - WON
Wycombe - WON
Stevenage - DREW
Plymouth - DREW
Luton - WON
Newport - WON
Exeter - DREW

Still have nightmares about Grimsby 10 years ago!. Halfway through the 2nd half, a massive cheer went up, as word passed round was that Bury were beating Swansea. Duff info, the guy who started that, should have been strung up!.
I remember when that happend at Millwall in the early 70s , they were dancing dancing on the pitch when news came through that it was wrong info , lots of unhappy Millwall down the Old Kent Road after game .

There is an omen

isn't the longest unbeaten streak 8 in a row , we are currently seven in a row ?. So we go to morecombe win and match a record ?
