MK Dons

Although I hate the MK Dons and what they did to Wimbledon I have just seen the local news and a piece covering the Queen's visit to the town.

There were 15,000 school children in the new stadium and Pete Winkleman was rushing around with a huge grin on his face. The stadium looked great and the atmosphere seemed brilliant.

It appears to have galvinised the town.

New ground anyone?

A new ground will always have the attraction to those curious people wanting a look. Its more a question of whether such interest can be sustained in the long term. All well and good having a nice spangly new ground but its got to be paid for somehow whether it be the initial build costs or the upkeep.

Heres one, use your imagination....

did see a game on sky a while back where they had summin like 13 odd thousand there. not bad at all for league 2. very nice ground though.

I do believe I saw that one aswell......Wasnt that their highest tho?

As you say though....very good for Div 2 team.....Infact very good for a Div 1 team (except those Leeds lot tho)

I think you'll find their average since moving to Stadium MK is around the 9k mark. As much as I despise everything they stand for, they have a good potential market, and Winkleman has put the club out there. He has even provided 22,000 (soon to be 30) large fully padded seats to have them coming back for more.

I can provide you stacks of data which proves the new stadium effect adds an average of around 20% to a club's gate for the first season at least. It is then up to the respective club to market the club well enough to sustain and build upon these improved levels of support.

I would fully expect us to attract a 10k plus average in our first season at a new ground and steadily build over the next 5 years.

I know there club shop is taking loads of money, but again its the effects of a new stadium, and having stuff they've never had before. I can't wait for a new stadium, it will be brill!

I understand that the ground is already booked as the venue for several concerts. If you're the only decent venue with a 20,000 plus capacity in an area then you'll find plenty of uses when its not being used for footy.

Uncle Ron could do worse than have a chat with Penguin Pete as this is one area where Winkelman's background is strong and, as far as I know, RM's isn't.

i beleive directly next door to the stadium there is a wacking great big indoor basketball stadium being built for the MK Basketball team too!!

That's because they did a similar JustSport deal like we've got though!
Look at how people are buying more club Nike stuff purely because it looks better than the previous rubbish we had masquerading as official club replicas!

Will uncle Ron be allowed to do that though? I thought I saw something about using the ground on non match days....cant remember what it was cos I have been asleep since then and drunk alcohol which has killed off the memory brain cell which contained this information.

So apologies if I am guessing....

There's plenty of other places here in MK - The Bowl for one were Green Day & Oasis have played.....Campbell Park where I had the misfortune to see UB40.... I think Manky Donkeys are going to struggle when the "new" buzz slips from the stadium....and if they drop down the league if Paul Ince leaves, then they'll properly be in sh1te street.

Hope so, with AFC Wimbledon passing them on the way back up.
