Miss of the Season Competition

fbm

Blue tinted optimist⭐🦐
We don't score that many goals as a team, and some say that it's because we don't create enough chances. But boy, do we miss some!

Every so often a player will miss an open goal and the chances are that it will make a Bloopers Video somewhere, along with all of the other errors from all the other clubs. But this season we can almost have our own competition!

I'm not talking about the half chances or ones where the player "should have hit the target with that" type of effort... I'm talking about the absolute stonewall tap ins that ANY footballer, professional or not, should score.

The ones like the free headers in the 6 yard box, or the ones that run in front of or over the players foot when they are a yard out with no-one to beat, or the one like Walker's last night when he ballooned it over the bar when it seemed he only needed to let it hit him for it to be a goal.

So, let's have it... your best misses this season (home or away).

I'll start -

1 - Aldershot 18/2 Roots Hall - A great move within the first few minutes of the game saw the ball arrive at the back post to an unmarked Josh Walker who decides to volley it almost over the stand.

2 - ?

Rochdale??

I think it was the Fylde game..

Bonne squares it from the right side of the penalty box and Charley Kendall seems to miss the ball 7 yards out.

1 minute 15 seconds.

Lots of bad ones in this game to be fair.

Don't you mean Aldershot?

Kendal on his debut, in front of the North bank misses a cross from 2yds out as he is running in. These details may be sketchy, mirrored by my age and memory. But he definetly missed what was basically an open goal. Then did the same thing up at (again, sketchy on the detail) York City.
I couldve fact checked this but im sure someone will correct if i'm wrong.
Two great chances to score a tap in...

Updated list

1 - Aldershot 18/2 Roots Hall - A great move within the first few minutes of the game saw the ball arrive at the back post to an unmarked Josh Walker who decides to volley it almost over the stand.

2 - Fylde 28/1 - Roots Hall - A square ball from Bonne finds Charley Kendall in front of the net a few yards out but misses the ball

3 - Fylde 28/1 Roots Hall - A ball across to Josh Walker from Kendall finds him inside the 6 yard box but he hits the keeper's legs, then screws the follow up wide.

4 - Fylde 28/1 Roots Hall - A great cross from Morton finds Macauley Bonne with a free header in front of goal on the 6 yard box but he heads over.

2. For me so far - misses the ball completely.

At least the others actually made contact with the ball. Also for (1) some comments on match thread that Walker was offside - so is it a miss?

4 - Fylde 28/1 Roots Hall - A great cross from Morton finds Macauley Bonne with a free header in front of goal on the 6 yard box but he heads over.

5 - Tamworth 26/10/24 Roots Hall - Defender slips over in left back position leaving Gus a clear run down the right channel. He takes it into the box, squares for Macauley Bonne who, 3 yards out, lifts it over the bar.

6 - Hartlepool, 18/08/24 Victoria Rd - Ball across to the far post for Jack Bridge to literally tap it in but he has a touch first and the chance is lost
