Sheffield Utd have bid for Blackburn midfielder 1.5Million - Darragh Lenihan.
Does this mean no more interest in Lenny. ???

It makes their desirory offer even more irritating. Ideal world as you say he signs before Sat and a win win result

The difference being of course that Lenihan is two years younger than Leonard, has two years left on his deal instead of one, and has more than 50 appearances in the second tier.

What's his relationship like with Will Atkinson?

Most of that will be to buy out his contract.

When people see transfer fees, they think it is a premium purely for the player. It isn't. The existing contract has to be bought out first.

Further, Lenihan is 23. Makes all the difference as Blackburn will be entitled to a fee anyway.

What's Lenny on salary wise? £50k a year max I reckon. That's a £450k premium for us that Millwall offered. Lenihan will be on miles more in wages, being ex championship, and then will have the premium on top.

Why would his contract need to be bought out? There'd be loyalty bonuses likely due but not two years wages.

I'd be very surprised if Lenny is on 50k. If say around 80k+ would be nearer the mark.

Maybe with win, goal and selection bonuses, but the basic is all that is contracted and all that needs to be taken into account. Anyhow, even if it is £80k, that's still over £400k as a premium. Not bad for L1 player of 25. Any buying club will say that if we value him so highly, why not pay him more?

Ok, enough. What I tried to say, but clearly failed to get across, is that Will could be seen as a sort of big brother - that was what Lenny had first when he came up, house sharing with Chris Barker, Blair Sturrock and Graham Coughlan, and Lenny was always the youngest one there. Players with a lot of experience and lots of clubs, people to be able to advise.

Door shutting after horsey bolting?

Just to let you know unlike some other clubs Southend don't pay goal bonuses as the a management think it can be detrimental to the team performance.

Fair enough... I can understand that.
