What’s this talk in the echo that there are on going talk to merge Southend and another club on a similar standing with a modern stadium?

Surely Southend and Colchester are not going to merge into a single Essex United football club or are we merging with Southend manor, Chelmsford city or canvey?

If we did, really would anyone really travel up the a12 to see them?

Sounds like an April fool joke. Mergers are never popular with fans. Some of us remember Robert Maxwell trying to amalgamate Oxford United with Reading and naming them Thames Valley Royals. There was uproar at the time.

Henry Norris tried to Merge Fulham and Woolwich Arsenal some time ago (when Woolwich were being relegated) , It failed So he chose to move out of Woolwich , He had to "enable" promotion into the re-formed Div 1 after the war and the rest is history (as is his ban for Bribery of FA officials) Sounds as dodgy as Ron but a tad more successful on the football from

Remember it well, going even further back to around 1966-67 with Brentford and Q.P.R can't actually remember why (ground share?, help needed Mick) think we were part of the protest when they played us in a 1-1 draw at Griffin Park and I believe it might have been Brentford's biggest crowd of that season.?
