Memories of the "shed"

Just saw that Col U have played their last game at Gayer Road and I wondered what peoples most memorable victories at Layer road are?

Trying to set light to it one friday night until a bored copper came over and told us to pi$$ on it to put it out. Which was very nice of him.

Any victory at Layabout Road was always enjoyable but 2 that stand out are ...

1) The 3-0 during the title winning season .. game over after half an hour, and when it was on The Championship the next day they did a close up on some Col Ewe bulldyke crying her eyes out when the third went in .. Quality moment

2) Late on in the 89-90 season we won 2-0 to virtually seal their relegation. Peter Daly ran from the half way line to score the second and leapt into the away end to celebrate, planting a flying head butt on Kerry Fairless in the process .. oh how we laughed

I can't belive i nearly forgot a 2-1 win on a friday night ... another promotion winning season (86/87) when Peter Johnson beat about 18 men before smacking one in from 30 yards .. a goal fit to win The Grand National and The Boat Race apparently

I must also mention winning 4-3 in the League Cup and the two LDV games, another funny one was a 2-2 friendly draw when the local plod expected 50 of us and there were 500 ... absolute pandemonium

Remember the 2-0 win with Peter Daley scoring the second one of the first away games I ever drove myself to, remember praying my Mark I Ford Escort didn't boil up on the journey there and back.

Agree with that :)
Mine has nothing to do with the football
The toilets were truely disgusting and UNISEX.
Remember coming out of the toilet and seeing some young man standing there.

I was there for the Daley special and the 4-3 in the League Cup all those years ago, I remember my younger brother (we're_not_cockneys) scoring a pen before the game in front of the Col Ewe's that was classic. Also it was so packed at the 4-3 game we had to jump out of the terrace (which was wooden in those days!) and walk along the front of the stand to get the toilets.

Unfortunately couldn't get a ticket for the 3-0 in League One, had to make do with the big screen at the Hall.

Was at all of the above, all great games, favourite tho is the 2-1 as this was my first visit there and PJ's goal was pure quality.

Been there 4 times and every one has been memorable. First time was the LDV South Final 1st leg, 3-2 and a very good match. Went in the seating for that one. 2nd time was the LDV 1st round match when we won on pens. My first time in the terrace, great atmosphere. 3rd time was the 3-0 win 2 seasons ago, one of my favourite away trips ever. My last time was the only bad memory, the 3-0 defeat last season. Will miss going there, always a good laugh in that tiny terrace.

1970 when the big wooden barrier collapsed during a rendition of 'knees up mother Brown. Could have been a disaster if the big fellers had'nt linked arms to stop loads of us falling. By the way, we won 2-0.
