Mediocre start?

blue shrimp

Youth team
Tilly with the smallest squad in world football continues to work his magic,The lads are playing ok enough and deserve more than 8 pts but there lies the problem,Averaging around 1pt per game we are already playing catch up.

I believe 75pts will clinch the final play off position,If true the lads require 67pts from the remaining 39 games,We must assume the team will lose possibly 9 of the remaining league games ,Again if correct means 67pts from 30 games which is off course title winning form.

Having such a small squad will of course end in tears,Injuries and suspensions will evenrtually take their toll,I for one thought if we achieve mid table it would be success based on the tools Tilson had been given.

Wonder how many extra points(if any)the lads could have achieved if Theo Robinson had been signed.

I think that the playoffs at the moment is a little ambitous, we have no money to strengthen and who knows if or when we we will get loan players in..... we are currently earning an average of 1.14 points per game, if we carry on at this rate we'll end up with 52 points which in my mind will be enough to avoid relegation, if this happens i'll be more than happy this year.

Considering the small squad we have, the recent problems and the fact Tilly is looking to consolidate again this season, I think we have had a fair start, not near the bottom, 11th or 12th, i am quite happy so far.

Some of the panic comments on here before the season started would lead you to believe we would be bottom all season and be dead certs for relegation...not so is it.

A better question is how much closer to going under would we be if Theo Robinson had been signed.

All things considered to be top half at this stage, and frankly to consider ourselves unfortunate not to be in the top six, is remarkable. If we finish in the play offs this year then it will be Tilly's most remarkable achievement by a mile but it's far too early in the season to really contemplate it. I suspect that most of us would accept mediocrity this year.

I think anything other than relegation will be an achievement in itself considering the size of the squad and the off the field distractions.

I think your maths are a bit wrong. You can't omit the 9 games and say 67 points from 30. Whichever way you look at it and how many games you loose its 67 points from 39. Thats 1.71 points per game.

To make the play-offs 1.7 points per game over the course of the season should be enough (78 points), so far we should have 12 points so we are 4 behind, but its so early a couple of wins or defeats can very quickly change the maths.

To be honest, if we stay injury free, we can push the top 6, however a similar season to last I think with play - off chances until about 4 or 5 games from the end of the season will be an achievement.

I'd would be happy with a top-half finish which I think we are more than capable of.

Who knows though with a couple of inspired Dervirt/Robinson style signings we might be able to push for the play-offs.

Given the financial contraints we're operating under I'll be ecstatic if we finish higher than about 17th.

The reason for my initial post was to try and stop any more talk of play offs,Reading certain views after the Orient game you would think we have become world beaters. When our leader RM stated if the team were top 10 towards the latter stages of the season he expects a play off slot I was slightly annoyed at such comments,Bad enough for our own fans expecting Tilly to do the impossible something rather more when the chairman adds fuel to the flames.

As many have stated midtable would be excellent for the majority of shrimpers.

Please could we dissist from play off talk and take each game as it comes.
