Max and Paddy...

Was actually bloody funny this week!! Has been dirge so far, but tonight was like a decent Phoenix Nights... shame its too little too late.

Anyway, proper comedy on now... Peep Show!!

I have found this refreshingly funny all the way through. It doesn't need a belly full of canned laughter every 30 seconds to get its subtlety across.

Here's one person urgently reviewing his opinion of Peter Kay.

Peter Kay is widely frowned upon now by the comedy community for being a total sell out. T-Shirts with 'catchprases' on from Max and Paddy (classics such as "Thatchers Britain" and "How dare you") were on sale after Episode 1 on his website.

Has soured my view of PK somewhat as Max and Paddy has been very poor - poorly written, poorly acted and very few gags. Compare that to Phoenix Nights, or even That Peter Kay Thing and M&P has been a shocking disappointment...

Sounds like he's making a living and good on him. I bet he couldn't give a sh*t what the 'rest of the comedy blah blah' thought of him to be honest.

M&P is quality. As Tony says, its not a laughing out loud programme but its done very well and find it brilliant ...

So you are in the know obviously then?

Max and Paddy has in my eyes been quality so far and i have enjoyed every minute of it. Keep em coming Peter Kay.

Yea, so what? I am a keen follower of the whole comedy scene and from the forums and websites I visit, Kay always takes a caning since Max and Paddy started.

My personal opinion is that it has been pants and I cannot rationalise why anyone thinks any different?! Name one funny thing in it so far up until last nights episode??

Phoenix Nights was superbly written and every episode is pretty much a classic - with Max and Paddy normally stealing the show when they appeared - but this spin off has not even been like the 'real' Max and Paddy from PN, the dynamic is all wrong...

If you wanna laff at gay, racist, **** jokes, then who am I to argue (and I like Little Britain before anyone says anything!)...

Phoenix Nights was very difficult to watch in my eyes. I prefer Max and Paddy, and I think its excellent.

Different people have different opinions, and yeah I accept that you dont particulary like it. It aint gonna stop me from watching it tho!

I've only seen one episode, and I found it quite funny in parts. The episode I saw was when Noddy Holder did a cameo as the bucktoothed mechanic.

So the dancing lessons skit wasn't funny then ? I woke my wife and kids up as I was rolling around laughing & crying like a baby and beating my fists on the carpet.

Perhaps it was because I could never get into Phoenix Nights that I don't have to make the comparison between the two 'versions' of M + P and therefore find it funny. In a similar vein I'm sure I read somewhere that the BBC were thinking of an OFaH spin-off with Boycey and Marlene. Surely a recipe for disaster ? And on that basis your dynamic comment is quite persuasive.

Now stop posting comments that I feel persuaded to reply on. I'm supposed to be bloody working !!!!

laughing out loud... get back to work!

And yea, how bad is a Boycey spin-off of todays OF&H gonna be?! OF&H itself went to the dogs years ago... oh dear

In my opinion Max and Paddy is not a patch on Pheonix Nights, which I felt was a sublime show that should in time be recognised as a classic among British sitcoms.

That doesn't make Max and Paddy a bad show however, almost all of the current sitcoms look ordinary compared to PN, but it has had some funny moments.

The one that stands out for me was when Max was singing at the 40th Birthday party, Paddy walked out of the toilets and on to the stage with perfect timing to perform the harmonica solo before walking off stage again. That was as funny and subtly done as anything in Pheonix Nights, pure laugh out loud hilarious.

As for Peter Kay being frowned upon by the comedy community - well that is pure jealousy. By selling t-shirts with catchphrases on he isn't doing anything new, Vic and Bob were doing it years ago - no, his only 'crime' is being successful and that success has come simply by being bloody funny.

How about just after Paddy had got back from his porno making walking a little bit funny and he puts on the radio and on comes brown boy in the ring.

I was in stitches at that.

ah yes, now Peep Show was ace again this week. Surprised no-one has mentioned this recently. Watched a few episodes in series one but series two has been awesome. Marks facial expressions just get me every time.

Got all M&P downloaded but not had time to watch a single one yet.

I love Peep Show... it has provided comedy of the year IMO! Some of the lines, then the expressions of the characters, awesome...

S1 should be arriving today!
