Echo News Mark Bentley jumped at chance to come back to Southend United

Sounds like an initial assessment, the necessary recruitment and we climb from there

"We want to go in with fresh minds and there will be opportunities for lads who might not have been in the squad."

This might not be the worst idea. Get some players in who havent been suffering the negativity of going behind. Might be chance for players like Kineli, Rush, Gard even.

Akinola would be ideal, but rumours he's out long term again.

Cant think who else we can bring in from the cold though, but 1 or 2 of those kids + a fresh recruit or two could make a hell of a difference.

Could also be players from the under 23s who weren't in the squad before. O'Shane Stewart and Tommy Davis (who I thought I saw training in the number 26 kit from photos) are two that spring to mind. Mitchell-Nelson is also out on loan with Kinali.

Could also mean the three loanees who weren't part of the matchday squad on Saturday.

I'm probably more excited about who will play the game than the actual game itself.
