March Madness & The NBA Finals

EastStandBlue

Thread for all of the Basketball fans on here, I know there are a few, and with March Madness starting tomorrow I thought I'd start this now...

Although this years draft class isn't anywhere near last years in terms of overall quality, from what i've seen the standard of basketball played in this years college league has been pretty good. I watched Duke slug it out with UNC during Grudge Week and it was just a brilliant game of Basketball.

I'd love to see Duke win, they haven't won in 5 years now, but I think UCONN just might take it this year... They've certainly looked the strongest from what i've seen.

In the NBA the Celtic's shortcomings are being made plainly visible, without Garnett they haemorrage points and just can't defend. They're capable of posting massive totals with Pierce and Allen, but can't hold teams off without Garnett. Rondo, though, has been great this year. From the looks of it, I think it'll be a Cavaliers Lakers final, and I'd personally love to see LBJ get his ring, much like Garnett last season.

Really struggling to keep tabs on the NBA now Sky don't show those Sunday night games.

I assume ESPN America will be all over March Madness though, so I'll look forward to watching a bit of that.

Have you chaps filled in a 'Tournament Challenge' bracket on ESPN.com? I've entered mine in the 'Around the Horn' group, but I've gone too far from chalk I think. I can't see all four number one seeds making the final four, but I only have one getting in (Pitt). My final is Duke against Arizona. Arizona has two probable first round NBA picks in their starting line-up and I think they're going to be mad as hell that so many pundits are saying they shouldn't even be at the dance. UNC rely heavily on Lawson who's carrying a sprained ankle and I can see the Dukies slipping under the radar to take out the Tar Heels in the Elite Eight. Should be a great tourney.

I'll play. I know exactly nothing about college hoops (apart from a book I once read about Michigan's Fab Five team of the early 1990s) but I hope to be following it over the next fortnight.

I missed the cut off too....

Big KG returns to the Celtics line up after a month out and automatically has an affect, with the Tics beating the Spurs last night. Providing he's 100% going into the PO's, this month lay off could be the rest which spurs the team into life.

No big shocks in the CBB as of yet, with all the big boys through to the second round... Duke Vs. UCLA could prove to be a huge game in the next round though, with the winner more than likely facing the winner of Pitt/Oklahoma State.

I entered two brackets, one was a touch chalky and one full of long shots. The long shot bracket has crashed and burned badly, but I have the entire sweet sixteen correct in my chalk bracket. The only 'Cinderella' still at the dance is 12 seed Arizona, whose inclusion in the tourney was questioned by many pundits. I've got the Wildcats losing to Duke in the final, if that comes right, I might even get in the top 100. I've never made the top 100,000 before so my current position of 3000th or so is very pleasing. My other entry isn't in the top 4 million.......

Apologies if this is old news, but I have just got an e-mail from NBA Europe; Chicago Bulls are playing the Utah Jazz at the O2 on October 6th.
