March 07 Issue - Four Four Two

Not sure if this has already been mentioned (I was offline for most of last week) but the latest issue of 442 features Southend in the regular fans forum article, along with East Anglain Championship rivals, Ipswich, Norwich & Colchester.

They got Rob Craven to represent us, found it quite an interesting article mainly to see how the other teams view us. However, I really don't understand his answer for what other teams do you hate, to which he replied Yeovil. Now, I know we had a rivalry with them, mainly from the L2 promotion season, but I for one don't hate them despite them clinching the title at the Hall. Other teams I hate as a Southend fan HAVE to be the Spammers, the O's & Birmingham City (although our 3-1 win the other week did a lot to quench that particualr fire!)

Rob if you're reading this, what were you thinking or were you misquoted?

I think it is Gary Johnson I don't like. Evil gnome like creature who eats babies, I think. I didn't like Yeovil when he was manager but don't dislike them now, and dislike Bristol City intently instead.

The question, IIRC, was 'What club do you have an irrational hatred for?' (one thing that they did not put in the mag, but was a stipulation, was that it wasn't a local side, ruling out West Ham and Orient). At the time, Birmingham slipped my mind, but we've had a couple of thumpings at Huish Park - along with a few unpleasant stewarding experiences - and they pipped us to the League Two title. I'd say hating a club because of a couple of thrashings and a title triumph that we ultimately had the last laugh on a) because we went up anyway and b) because we went one better and won the League One title the following season was pretty irrational!

I did go into the Birmingham stuff a bit later on, but that wasn't included.

Also, in my first answer, I think 4-4-2 misquoted me on saying 'League Two' instead of 'League One'!

Yeovil fans came to Cardiff to cheer us on vs Lincoln which i thought was a nice touch. Last home game of the season I had a broken leg and was on crutches. A steward said I could walk the edge of the pitch past all the Yeovil fans in the North Bank to get to the North Bank car park.

Despite the fact they had just in effect pipped us to promotion they were really good to me and wished me well.

Personally I like them.

I thought we had a good relationship with Yeovil personally.

Maybe its because we sent them Wayne Gray and they sent Harrold its gone pear shaped :)

It's what MK Dons could have done to the rest of football. I hate the Franchise Scum rationally, irrationally, etc.

plus the fact that we can't beat them, and plus it is the worst away trip i have ever done.. will never go back there!

I'll second that JT. The most souless place on earth with a plastic imitation football team. I was too young to really understand the outrage when Wimbledon first talked of upping sticks. But after going to that excuse of a place and reading the programme's article on links between Wimbledon and Southend United I couldnt help but feel sick. it felt so very wrong.

Yeah really awful experience was MKDonalds for 2 reasons (and not the defeat!):

(1) The coldest I've EVER been in 19 years as a Shrimper - infact it's the coldest I've ever been in my life (and sitting in the back row didn't help as every gust of wind it felt like I was gonna be swept over the wall behind!!).

(2) When I reached my seat I found it covered in bird sh...

And I don't just mean bits here and there the bloody seat was absolutely CAKED in it!! It was SO bad I could hardly even see any of the seat (much to Draft Shrimper's obvious amusement!!!).

I know what you mean, I was on the back row as well. It was stupidly cold!!
