Manny Pacquiao vs Miguel Cotto

EastStandBlue

Life President
Thought I'd start this early for some discussion. Great news is it's being televised on Sky Sports 1 next weekend, not Box Office and it promises to be a fantastic fight.

Pac Man will probably be a heavy favourite here going on his previous fights, stable and phenomenal speed, but Cotto, for me, is the only guy second to Mayweather who could match him in the ring.

Personally, as much as I'd like to see Pacquiao get beat, I'd love to see a Mayweather Pacquiao Super Fight and a Manny Win is probably the only way this'll happen. Mayweather would surely be next in line should Manny win and it's Fight of the Decade material...

Pacman was pheonominal last night. Despite Cotto's bravery and heart, he was no match for the power and drive of Manny.

Bring on the Pacman-Mayweather superfight.

Amazing fight, fair play with cotto who went toe to toe with pacman, who was simply awesome. Now world champ at 5 different weights! Incredible

It was so one sided it was unreal. The Pacman deserves to be called the best pound for pound fighter!

True, he is world class, but IMO Mayweather is still the man to beat. Taking nothing away from Pacman, he has fought some tough guys, but none of them had Mayweather's ability. You have to consider, Pacman has outclassed some decent fighters, but mainly because they made mistakes which amplified Pacmans skills. Look at the Hatton fight, Hatton lost his head, the game plan went out of the window and he got caught. Look at Cotto, got angry and lost his mind/gameplan, allowing Pacman to simply pick his shots to devastating effect. The fight was pretty much over after the second knock down, as Cotto was a spent force from then on and rarely threatened Pacman.

Mayweather won't be making the same mistakes. He is a very disciplined fighter, who has the best team in the world working on his tactics/gameplan. Also, Manny has never come up against someone as quick as Mayweather at the welterweight level. Not just hand speed, but the way he moves around the ring, and is able to dodge punches. So far at this weight Pacquiao has fought big punchers. Fighters who want to stand and trade and so far Manny has dismantled them all, BUT how will he cope against an arguably better all round fighter with a similar gamplan?

My report will be up later tonight, I had to be at work at 8am this morning so was praying for the fight to finish within 3 rounds, but was pleased it went the 12 rounds as it was fight of the year material.

All I'll say for now is, Pacman... What a fighter.
