Nothing new in that article, I remember discussing something similar when I did my HND 20 odd years ago. The trick is to use a heirarchy that suits your company and the business you are in.

With regard to managers of football clubs, you still need someone to pick the formation, tactics and the team. Tommy Docherty used to pick the team at Chelsea, but famously it was Venables who sorted out the tactics out on the pitch as Captain.
