I know they biggest club in the world etc etc, but it may as well be an exhibition match .... it nowhere near importance of our next two league matches if we can beat leeds and hull it would be amazing, i worried the players will get seriously distracted as well. I say bollox to Man utd lets concentrate on what really matters rather than spunking over the prospect of playing Man utd reserves.

...or queueing up to sniff coleens seat after the match

I take you can't get a ticket then

You also seem to be forgetting the fact that should we perform a miracle and actually beat them we stand a very good chance of pulling the likes of Arsenal away at the Emirates which would be a massive pay day for the club.

Another possible plus point. We all know that Freddy is more than likely off come the January transfer window and should he perform like we all know he can in front of Sir Alex and the TV cameras and no doubt other club scouts he could add a considerable amount to any fee he would command.

I a season ticket holder thank you very much have been for years, dont get me wrong still good to have em here but we got bigger fish to fry in my opinion

Quite agree we have got bigger fish to fry and in the great scheme of things the Carling Cup perhaps does not matter to much but there are some big positives that could come of it.

It could also work as a confidence boost for some of the players that have perhaps been playing below par recently. Something like this can work both ways

Sorry, I have to disagree with you Lee. I don't know if you remember when we played Liverpool all those years ago, think it was around 1980. I remember it very well. I didn't go. And I was reminded about it for approximately the whole following year at school by all those who did go. Something I shall never forget for all the wrong reasons, this is one I want to remember for the right reasons.

Our league results are indeed whats important but that doesnt mean we shouldnt celebrate and look forward to a great game against ManU, even a weakened one.

This doesnt come along often so relish it whilst we can....

Exactly!
Look at what the first LDV final run did for the team.
Performances on the weekends following those game IMHO considerably contributed to keep us from going into the Conference that season.

I'm hoping now that this years Carling Cup maybe might have the same effect!

I think we would be very unlucky to get relegated to the conference next May.

Cheers.

games like this the players love to be involved with so it should make everybody hungry and raise their game in an effort to be selected for the starting 11

But some of our players are assured of their place no matter how badly they play between now and then, and may well be tempted to take it easy so as to avoid injury or another booking. I'd suggest Gutts and Maher could well be the worse offenders in this regard.

Lets face it not many are fighting for their places, not when we can just about send out a starting eleven!!

I'm more worried about players pulling out of challenges so that they don't get injured and miss the Man U game.

well i was thinking more along the lines of young hooper after his leeds game he claimed he was buzzing.....and im sure given how close this game is he will want to build on his tally starting at leeds.......and this may also give freddy a lift not to be outdone by the young nipper snapper.......thought gutts played well at leeds hopefully the team have realised what is needed in this league and latter stages of a major cup...also it will lift us fans cant wait for tomorrow now......
