Wes Brown is urging his United team-mates to move on from Tuesday's shock Carling Cup exit against struggling Championship side Southend United.
The Reds' defender skippered the side that was knocked out the competition by Steve Tilson's side at Roots Hall.
Although bitterly disapppointed by the result, Brown is confident the team have the strength of character to get themselves together before Saturday's Premiership trip to Blackburn.
"Responding to adversity is what being a United player is all about," Brown told MUTV. "Tomorrow is another day and it's important for us to pick ourselves up and be ready for the next league game. We've done it in the past and we need to do it again."
A stunning free-kick from Freddy Eastwood on 27 minutes gave Southend a dream start and it was a lead they managed to hold on thanks in the main to a superb performance by goalkeeper Darryl Flahavan.
"Their keeper made some great saves but in general there wasn't enough penetration within our game," admitted Brown. "They made things very difficult for us and although we tried to get ourselves back into it, it just wasn't happening for us.
"We put a lot of pressure on in the last twenty minutes but they handled it and as a team defended very well; they deserved the victory.
"We didn't underestimate them," added the 27-year-old. "You can never expect to go anywhere and win no matter what division a team is in. We're all gutted but we need to bounce back."
