73 minutes gone, brighton has just scored and mcdonald hurt his back from a challenge on the keeper, nasty stud marks on his back and not moving freely fro the last 15min, says the radio.

Why doesnt tilly put the lad from leicester on and try and use his electric pace to exploit some gaps, gaps that will not appear now since brighton scored, would have made sense to do this 5 mins ago?

Does tilly know how to use subs, its very frustrating?

It's just really showing his tactical naiveity. He either needs to get smart on the art of good and adaptable tactics, or get in another addition to the coaching staff who can coach/teach tactics to the players and be there to assist Tilly when our tactics on the pitch aren't right for the situation or go tits up.

Tilly made a defensive sub at Leeds to counteract Flo, we promptly shipped 3 goals. It's dead easy having 20/20 hindsight.

I don't think there was anything wrong with our use of subs this afternoon. MacDonald shrugged off the injury pretty quickly and it didn't seem to be effecting him too much. Maybe Gower could have gone off five minutes earlier but I don't think it would have made any real difference. People can say that Richards should have come on but we saw at Leeds what happened there when we re-jiged the back line in the last ten minutes and had we done the same and still conceeded Tilly would have been slaughtered. We need players on the field from the kick off who came deal with direct teams and big players, we shouldn't be having to rearrange the defence every time anyone with any height comes onto the field.

The lesson to learn here wasn't in our use of substitutes, it was in Brighton's. They made three bold changes and turned the game with them.

you having a laugh. maybe 45 mins ealier, it seems he only seems to be able to last half a game, he was f****d at half time, in the second half he didnt wanna beat anyone he just wanted to put the ball in the box, but no point doing that coz there was never anyone in there. What has black got to do to get a start, every southend fan at brighton today could see it so why couldnt tilson.

to be honest the reason we lost today was coz of our s**t tactics of playing too many central midfielders. Every time brighton went down the wings they were 2 on 1 against cheese and gilbert. People are saying that gilbert keeps getting skinned but then i think every player in the world would if he is having to mark 2 players. and it shows as there goals came from crosses today. We just looked like conceding everytime a ball comes in from the wings at the moment!!

I dont think it was re-jiging the back line that was required but strengthening. It would have made sense to lose mcdonald and gain richards to, excuse the pun, beef up the defence.

i dont really think we needed to change the defence but as soon as they bought there 3rd striker on black should have come on and taken the game to them, they would have had to defend then rathert than gower just keep giving them the ball back to them and letting them come at us. we needed to stretch the play and we didnt do that coz gower didnt have the legs to run at them and scare them

I sat 4 rows back right behind Tilly in the Brighton end amongst their hardcore (quiet throughout though and new we were all over them/ different class)
Felt ill that I couldn't just shout out Tilly make a blimen substitution.
Black took forever to come on and as usual we needed the subs arguably at 1-0 and certainly straight after the magnificent Bailey scored.
I laughed when I heard Bailey described as the lower division Stevie Gerrard, but he is class and will be our next £million player.
We have such a great midfiled that we will always win the ball and play for hours - however very few chaces for all that possession and while our defence look great coming forward we looked vulnerable at the back
I stuck out like a sore thumb when they scored everyone went mental and I stood motionless while longing to be 'sneaking out' with the rest of our fans
