Macclesfield

Maccy Attendance:

Capacity: 6,335 (22nd)
High: 3,076 (24th)
Low: 1,436 (24th)
Avg: 2,204 (24th)

Nice to see they're enjoying their push for promotion!!

Us on the other hand are on the up:

Capacity: 12,343 (5th)
High: 8,224 (5th)
Low: 3,753 (7th)
Avg: 5,439 (6th)

Compared with averages gone by of:
03/04 - 4,529
02/03 - 3,951
01/02 - 3,982
00/01 - 4,306
99/00 - 4,138
98/99 - 4,317
97/98 - 4,202 (Old Div 2)
96/97 - 5,267 (Old Div 1)
95/96 - 5,916
94/95 - 5,154
93/94 - 6,109
92/93 - 5,381

In other words we have only twice in the past 12 years been pulling in higher crowds and that was in the old div1.

its the extra coverage, even though you say west ham get it and all the young chavs of the town coming to the games these days giving abuse to the away fans.

If you look at the crowds in our First Division (now Championship) - to be fair, the like of Birmingham, Wolves & WBA bring around 1000+ fans compared to like of Notts Co. Bury & Shrewsbury. I had to say we got more fans than we had in our promotion winning years (1989-90 & 90-91).

The problem is, that as we go up the leagues, so do the ticket prices. But they rarely come down.

Gillingham for instance (similar in size I'd say to our club) charge £25 admission for Championship games.

I reckon we'd have plenty of moaners if that was us...

If I were making excuses for the sh*tness of Macc's attendance then I would point out that they are within spitting distance of Manchester and all that, but to be fair we are close to London and there are plenty of big clubs there.... but having been to Macc, it's not exactly an inspiring place.

I'm not into all that "we're a better club because we average more" rubbish.

In any case our average is only the 6th best, whilst we are up in 4th (behind Macclesfield) meaning teams who are doing worse than us in the league are still getting more fans.

on the bbc essex commentary Saturday they were making digs at Macc's every 10 minutes, when it came in they were 3-1 up the commentator quipped "I'm sure their 2 fans are ecstatic"

Asian brothers I believe. I'm informed that general consensus at Macc is that the football club allows for more easy entry in to the UK. Can't verify the truth sadly.

If we get up to League 1 (which am sure we will) and are mid table next year our crowds will be similar to this years and thats with more away support.

Keeping the fans with higher prices when you are winning one and losing one is tricky - success too is not a g'tee of exponential fan base growth (different era I know but our Div 1 crowds were poor really).

Main message me thinks is 'live the moment' - playing well, winning, good atmosphere, reasonable prices, success seemingly in touching distance. Enjoy it, what will be will be re the attendances though in essence what we are achieving now is probably as good as we might hope for as an average.

Gets a bit tricky finding a parking space anyway if the crowd gets above 7,000.:)

Macclefield is a great day out. 2 of my best away trips have been to Macclesfield.

A 0-0 draw and a 2-1 loss. Great local pubs 5 of which are visible from the station and an open terrace. That's football!

Hey, my husband is a Macclesfield Town supporter - and yes, as the 2 supporters of the Club both he and his mum were delighted with their win on Saturday !

(The Macc Lads if you have ever heard of them)
Never seen/heard them but have seen the lyrics and they certainly made me chuckle.

Til I realised it wasn't just one big joke at least.
