Macca and M'Voto

greyerfox

First XI
Family matters took me to Manchester last Saturday and I took in Latics v Swindon. Macca captained Swindon from left back and was on top form. An accomplished footballer, he was composed and nothing got by him. He has moved back in terms of positional place but certainly not in his ability. An excellent captain too. Did not get booked either! M'Voto was as we remembered him when fit, a towering defender in the air but found wanting on the floor a little too often. He did have quite a handful in Chris Martin to mark however, who is nothing if not mobile and strong. At the end of the game the two embraced. Di Canio was as animated as ever and had his team playing just as he did when they ripped us apart at the Hall in JPT last season with Ritchie again outstanding. It was a comfortable win for his team but left me thinking that we have a team now which would at least survive in Div 1. Let's hope we have the chance to prove it next season.

And following the brouhaha at Fleetwood about the antics of D Deadman, ref Boyeson responded to the taunts of the Latics fans by making spectacles with his thumbs and forefingers as he stared them down. Needless to say this incensed the home fans, already wound up by their teams abysmal performance. Surely this sort of thing cannot be condoned by the authorities?

we have to keep our own players first, we need to get certain players to sign new contracts if we are to keep this side together and push on from their, lets hope talks are already in place as we dont want our important players going now do we.

I wonder what Yorkshire Blue would have to say about this? He was very quick to comment about McCormack when he left us but has been v quiet since he proved him completely wrong.

Er, in what way have I been proved "completely wrong"?

How are his rivals that I said should be playing in central midfield ahead of him now faring?

*Nicky Bailey is pushing for promotion to the Premier League with Middlesborough
*Franck Moussa is starring in midfield for Coventry who are now flying and averaging over 3 goals a game since the beginning of November. Moussa himself has scored three goals in his last five league games.
*Anthony Grant's a regular for Stevenage who are in the play-off places above Swindon

The fact that McCormack has been moved away from central midfield if anything vindicates my criticisms of his motor, his shooting and his passing as these are all attributes less important in a defender than a central midfielder.

A central midfield of Moussa and Grant would be looking very tasty right now.

Alan McCormack played against the club he turned down. It looks like he might have made a bad choice, as Dagenham beat Swindon. Scannell is still missing for the Daggers, as is Maher (he did end up there, didn't he?).

No updates since this then?

Shame you cannot even admit it when you get it wrong. It makes you look very silly.

Dunno what your other rambling was about? Dont remember anyone comparing Bailey to McCormack when we went down.

Next thing you will be telling us Prosser is better than Barrett was.

Sorry, been busy but a quick look on the search function suggests that I last did an update opening week of this season.

No doubt you'll apologise that you've got it wrong to avoid looking very silly.

FYI comparisons were made between Bailey and McCormack when they were team-mates and Bailey was played wide-midfield and McCormack in the centre. Bailey forced his way inside by the end of the season though.

Oh and apologies for something that I said might be the case, eventually turning out not to be the case. Just sit me on the dunces' step with Barna for that one.
