Macbook v Vaio

Thinking of getting a macbook or a vaio soon, but wanted to know your opinions on the mac. Heard that its much better than windows etc.

But i wanted to know if you can connect a home wireless system to the mac if you already have one set up on a windows computer? And also i've heard that a Mac uses a differnt type of MSN messenger? But most importantly is whether i can play my FM file on a mac which has been saved on a windows?!

Cheers any help/info would be great!

Macs can now run Windows running as a separate OS but you'll need an emulator.

Something like this Windows on a Mac

I believe that once installed the Windows OS behaves exactly like a stand alone OS and as such you will be able to do everything a Windows based notebook can do, including networking and playing games etc.

You can run Windows natively on a Mac now using Bootcamp -->

BOOTCAMP

The software is in beta still but works a treat, this means you can have both MacOSX and WindowsXP on the Macbook, just use the windows installation to run FM.

Differences between the OSes have been discussed to death on other forums and websites so I won't go into the benefits of running one over the other.

agreed... the only real pro's for a mac are if you are seriously into audio or graphics, and Vaios are well overpriced.. so if you want to get a serious laptop look elsewhere IMO

For what it's worth I recently purchased a Dell laptop with the following specs from the Dell outlet store.

Windows XP Pro.
Pentium Duo processor 1.83 GHz.
2Gb RAM.
100Gb HDD.
128Mb NVidia graphics.
Wireless, 15.4" Screen etc.

Price £650

OK. The chassis build quality is not as good as some but this is a good spec for the money.

I recently bought a Vaio, well SUFC did, mainly because they are excellent media machines.

Got a superb spec with Windows Media Centre and I have to say its the best laptop I have ever had.

Picked up really cheaply over on the PC World Business website www.pcwb.com. They have a huge clearence section and if you are lucky you can pick up a bargain.

Nice one, cheers everyone. the thing is im going over to hong kong over new years, so i can get laptops there cheaper. Like the mac is at least £200 cheaper.

I've got a black macbook via work, i'd advise to stick with the white one as the black one marks. Also run the firmware updates via Apple as there is an issue with the battery.

In answer to your questions they all come with Airport Cards and i've had no problems going wireless. Although doesn't support LEAP but unless your dialing into a company VPN then you should be ok.

MSN is a different version. Try this site for software
Versiontracker

I've got a client who plays FM on a Mac but i'd doubt you can save the files but to be honest you'll need to fish around for that.
