Our 3rd choice 'keeper, Luke Chambers has recently been on loan at Concord Rangers and has been allowed to return there for the play-offs. They played Wealdstone last night in the SF and a mate of mine is the goalkeeping coach there so I asked him for his professional opinion. It makes good reading!

@JasGK1: @Garrygen Chambers won the match by himself. He dealt with crosses and shots effectively inc two world class saves to keep the scores equal!

@JasGK1: @Garrygen he also seemed to be quite mature in front of a large home crowd. He wasn't put off!! We played immense-the best all season!!

Sounds like a great prospect - I believe, like Bentley, he's an ex-gooner, and has also played for Wales under-19.

Yeah, Concord won 2-1 and a win at Lowestoft will send them up to Conference Sth. More Essex club move to that level the better, I hope Chelmsford City go up, as I am sure we would be sending our young players on loans there in future.

....my mate also spoke very highly of Assombalonga who Wealdstone had on a season loan a couple of years ago

Chambers has always been rated higher than Bentley. If Bentley is indeed off to Southampton, then I'd imagine he'd make a more than capable understudy to Smith, just like Bentley has done this season.

The current U18 'keeper Ted Smith is also quite handy. Spent time at a Goalkeeping clinic at St George's Park earlier on this season.

I had heard the same about Chambers. Ted Smith was 3rd in the youth player of the season, behind Payne and Pinnock I believe. If Chambers is still 3rd choice next season, I think it would be good for him to go out on loan again.

Have i missed something, a chance he is off then???

Contract running out at the end of the season.

Give it a year and we would have cashed in on all three! Never keep our better youth players!

That is what clubs like us need to do, and for all our players. Unless you are a top team playing in the top competitions and winning trophies, you will always have your better players getting poached.

I went to the Concord game last night. Luke was Concord's MOM in my opinion. Kept them in the game 1st half with some great saves. Commanded his area well and vocal with the back four. Looks to have a decent future and a credit to the club.

....and the best thing about last night's game was that my mate's boy took out ex-Farmer, and general pest, Scott McGleish.

And even that's not a guarantee... Man Utd couldn't keep Ronaldo for instance

Chambers needs to be at minimum number 2 Keeper next season or he will move on,I spoke about him and the fact Southend had 2 of the best young keepers in the country and if they werent given game time Southend would lose them. seems we have another on the way up in Ted Smith. If Bentley stays i would have him as number1 and Chambers number 2 next season.I dont think either will let the club or its supporters down, and both seem to command their 6 yard box well and not afraid to shout orders out to the defence. Both have a positive attitude also. So if we cant get Federici back ( j/k ) give the lad a go.

Need some help. I'm the Southend researcher for FM. I read that Chambers joined Dunstable Town for this season? Does anyone know when? Also, how many games did he play during his spell at Concord last year?

Edit: Thought this was in ex-Shrimpers. Can move it there if needs be.

I believe Chambers joined Dunstable in pre season, seems to be doing a good job, they are currently 2nd in their league.
