Looking ahead?

Yes were all dissapointed with the result but isnt it time to look ahead and bring in some new signings? We definatly need a striker (in my opinion) but who? and what else do we need? looking forward to next season

Onwards and Upwards as has become bit of a SUFC motto the last couple of seasons. I think we need to bring in a experienced centre back ala Breen or someone who can the job that Sodje and Prior did for us.

I agree about needing a striker but i think if we can bring Walker in on permenant, get Robson-Kanu back in on loan and maybe get Hooper fireing like he has done for Hereford then we will be fine in that catorgory.

As it seems Hunt is on his way out and Che will probably follow aswell, we need wing backs, maybe get Mulgrew back in after his loan spell, and someone on the right also, not sure who would be availiable though.

I'm sorry Pitsea but I dont share your optimism about the striking options. :nope:

Walker, albeit young & terribly enthusiastic, IMHO just won't score goals as his basic skill levels aren't up to professional standard i.e. he can't trap a bag of cement. It's a shame as he undoubtedly tries his nuts off.

Revell. Well I always liked the peanut ones but due to political correctness we can't have them any more. Sorry, but if Tilly wouldn't put him upfront 9 days ago I can't see any point in him at all. Yes, apparently Brighton played him wide sometimes, but Brighton got nowhere so nuff said. I've never seen him even look like he can hit a barn door or play the PBB (Professional Big Bloke) role.

Hooper. Again if Tilly didn't have him on the bench last Friday, & I haven't seen mentioned that he was injured, what's the point? He scored for fun on loan but "de management" just don't seem to fancy him. I know we gave him a contract before his loan period but will they really ever actually play him?

MacDonald. Tries & tries & tries & tries. Can't fault him at all. But there is a simple fact. He's 27, has never made it at league level & there's a good reason for that. The 40 in 63 for Gravesend show his level. I'm sorry but he'll score shed loads in the conference but he's neither strong enough or quick enough for the league.

Harrold. I think we all know the situation there. The laughable thing is that we signed him when we were in the Championship.

Kanu. With Reading coming down I'm sure they'll lose some senior strikers so they'll need youth. Also, if Tilly preferred the lumbering form of Revell to change the game just over a week ago at home I can't see why HRK would want to come back. HRK had scored 3 goals in 6 starts(+2 subs) by then & Revell 6 in 21(+10). Also, will only play 10 games a season!

Which leaves us with Barney. Will average more goals vs minutes on the pitch than Fredy, but just won't play very much. Super player & natural goalscorer but doesn't have the nickname AB quoted for nothing.

We started this season with (IIRC) Harrold, Bradbury, MacDonald, Foran, Paynter, Hooper & Ademeno as our squad strikers. We ended the seaon with none of those 7 either at the club or even close to a 1st team place. Of those left but not above Foran will never play for us again & Charles, on the couple of occasions I've seen him, still looks way off league standard.

Sorry to be so negative, but I just don't see that "a" striker is even remotely close to what we need. I think that at the moment we have 1 "decent" striker signed to the club & that'll win you feck all. Don't forget that at the beginning of our surge towards the end of the season Tommy Black was often used up front, such were the jewels available to us.

It's interesting. Every single year we say we need a new striker, Tilly gets 3 and then we say release X, Y & Z and sign another.

Ok then let's put it another way.

Do you think that our current group of signed out & out strikers which I believe number 4 i.e. Barnard, MacDonald, Harrold & Ademeno plus wide men who can play up front, or the other way round, namely Hooper & Foran, are capable of scoring goals at L1 level. Obviously Barnard is, but the rest?

I'm not saying it's wrong that we don't need another striker, I was just making the observation that every year quite a lot of people will say they want another one.

Regarding whether I think we need another, if we want automatics, then yes, if we want playoffs no. I feel our strikers are good, especially if we can get kanu back. MacDonald isn't quite what I expected him to be, has never really done anything with his albeit limited chances. Harrold will surely leave.

I personally wouldn't be distraught without a striker signing, but hopefully we can get one on loan at least. I feel we could do with a creative winger, more importantly.

personally i think that Barnard and revell are good enough with hooper as 4th choice at best. We would then need 1 pacy striker i would guess if we dont keep Walker

Yes, definately a new striker but not sure who.

Maybe look for a decent, 15-20 goals a season striker that is a massive threat to opposition's defences, that is what we need. Maybe look in the championship?

four or five first teamers in IMO, two new wingers, striker, centre back and left back, possibly a new keeper

I think thats what all L1 sides are looking for tbf and there isnt enough to go around!

Unbelievably negative - but unfortunately pretty accurate too .

I only disagree with your comment on Harrold - there is nothing laughable about him . ( BUT I'll give him 10 out of 10 for endeavour )

I think we need another striker, assuming that Kanu goes back to Reading. People are moaning at Revell but Tilson won't sell him after 5 months. Could turn out to be good next season. I'd get rid of Harold (does his contract expire?), not sure about MacDonald. Barnard, Walker, Revell, Hooper and MacDOnald wouldn't be a bad strikeforce. I think we need another centre back to challenge Clarke and Barrett, and another winger. If we don't sign Mulgrew then a left-back too but I'd like us to sign him.

So Barnard isn't a 15-20 goals a season striker then? Like someone else said, every team wants one of them and there aren't many. I reckon we have one in Barnard.

We should give Jonny Herd a chance .

In fact , we should start blooding several of the kids next year

I think we could attract a decent, 15-20 goals a season for the following reasons.........

1. We are currently building a 22,000 seater stadium, attracting a good calibre of players to our club.

2. A striker/player loves to play for a well supported club, and judging by the dedication and effort on Friday night against Donny when we were 5-0 down, I think that that more than proves that we are a well supported club!

Combined these reasons and a striker will have more of a chance of signing for us!!!
