Liverpool Street Shut?

Euston was evacuated and closed about an hour ago with a 'suspect package' alert

I'd rather that than any more bombs going off, killing more innocent people.

I just don’t understand people how the $%&* can they still leave things around stations after all that has happened. Idiots!!

It was shut about an hour ago.

Don't know whether its reopened yet.

It appears to be reopened considering I sit on top of it, Bishopsgate by the Tower 42 was closed with a bedny bus in the middle of it stranded.

False alerts are going to happen for the next few days as they use to after IRA bombings. People are vigilant against unattended packages.

Unfortunately people will still be absent minded and will leave belongings somewhere they should not. Human nature unfortunately. We just have to be patient and remember the disruption is ultimately for our own good.

Whereabouts are your offices, Chairman Bob?

I normally work in Exchange House, which is the building with the big arch which sits over the tracks of Liverpool Street... although I'll be working in Vauxhall until the end of the year now.

I was on the 8.25 from Rayleigh - got to Liv St (or as far as the Welcome to Liv St sign just outside the station) at 9.15 where we sat for 40 minutes. A minute earlier and I'd have had no problems. Still I'd much rather they investigated 100 hoaxes than ignored one genuine package or phone-call.

Turns out it was a suspect torpedo at Benjis.

Matt - you know where Boots and WHSmiths is in Liverpool St station. Well look up and I am on top of you. I currently overlook the Ice Rink in Broadgate.

Blimey - not far at all.

Exchange House and Exchange Sq has been evacuated on police orders, incidentally.

Yep our 3FA building have been told to keep people away from the windows towards Sun St, appears Deutsche Bank on Appold St have been sent a threat.

Some people will take the opportunity to cause mayhem

Indeed.

There was also a controlled explosion in Cannon Street about an hour ago. I'm assuming this was caused by some idiot leaving a package unattended.

Yup! I was walking down the street and then quickly ushered out the way with everyone else nearby.

When I was on my way back there was a tourist bus abandoned where someone has obviously left a bag which is now no more.

I can see this going on for quite a while, but all you can do is get on with things.

7pm?

I suppose it is POETS day.

Mind you, I was still in bed at 8:25 this morning!

One of the hardest things in the aftemath of events like yesterday's is to decide where you draw the line on security. The only way to be sure of preventing repeat incidents would be to introduce airport style security for all means of public transport. But when you consider the scale of the impact that it would have on journey times, costs, and just the basic feasability of checking that number of people can you really say that the terrorists haven't changed the way we live, and "won" to some extent in their eyes?
