Liptak?

When we was 4-0 down Tilly made a rather pointless double substitution as we had already lost the game, but never made a 3rd sub. It has been said Liptak is not ready yet but hasnt played for us in a competitive 1st team game so we dont really know. Surely putting him on for the last 10 mins would have been a good test to seen a) what he is like against a good attacking team and b) to see mentaly how he reacts in a game like last night and if he could self motivate himelf to put in a perfomance. He was on the bench as defensive cover and rightly so after last weeks strange sub selection so Tilly must have some faith to pick him rather than Jonny Herd. It wouldnt have been a risk as we had already lost the game.

Didn't understand the inclusion of Liptak or Collis really last night, would much rather have seen Scannell and Hooper there and go all out for attack.

I think Tilson has come to 1 of 2 conclusions -

- He is not good enough
- That six months wasn't enough for his "transitional" period!

I tend to agree but on the other hand, we could just as easily have been defending a 1-0 lead, for example and at that point, if one of our defenders or Darryl gets sent off, we could then have been in trouble and Tilly would be getting stick for not having more defensive options. I'm glad I'm not a football manager because with the benefit of hindsight, we can always say we would have made a different team selection.

So if any one of our defenders have to go off injured, would you want to bring on Hooper or the very in experienced Scannell. Not one of our starting 11 apart from the back four or our bench apart from Liptak can play in defense so it would be suicidalnot to include him in the 16.

Still would have considered it. Flavs would have played on if he'd only had one leg to stand on, and if a defender had gone off, just stick extra in the midfield and have a kind of 3 2 3 2 set up - not beyond the understanding of the team I would have thought. We played a large part of last year with no sub goalie as well. I just feel Liptak, in partiuclar, was a waste of a player on the bench.

If Barrett or Clarke had got injured in the opening minutes then we would have needed him,

I was glad to see him on bench because in the last few weeks we have ben desperately short of defensive cover on the bench.

And one hand as well? Its a bit of a no brainer in an important games as last night.

I appreciate you have to try to cover for everything, but I think Tilly tried to do that. Hooper would have been a better option than MacDonald & he also likes to play Revell out wide as well as upfront. On that basis I think Tilly probably felt he did that.

Our main problem is we have a stronger starting XI than two years ago, Eastwood apart, but we lack a decent subs bench, which why Tilly is reluctant to make changes.

always always have a goalie on the subs bench!!! i remember scottish cup final in 2000, aberdeen keeper jim leighton broke his jaw in the first 2 minutes and had no sub goalie. instead striker went in and we got humped 4-0!!! being only 12 i was devasted as the final was a none starter for the next 88 minutes!!!

I am really now starting to wonder why we signed Zoltan.

He surely has to start to play next season or be released I feel.

How long can we keep a player like that in the reserves if he is still not rated as good enough to play?

Well lets face it Tilson has probably looked at Zoltan for a few months and has gradually realised he isn't good enough for league 1. We should of really put him up front to win some headers from corners.

I would imgaine that Tilly would say there are still some communication issues with Zoltan. However, I was under the impression that the language of football was universal, and he's done alright in the friendly games this year, so surely he deserves a runout at some stage?!

Would probably be best to see how he fairs this pre season, then make a decision on what to do. Maybe a sub apperence or two when the season kicks off also. Although im not a big fan of judging on pre-season friendleys because performances ofte varie from them to the actualy games ala Harrold, but i think thats the only chance to see what he can do now.

I think you will find that if he had not received a head injury in the reserve game against Stevenage he would have played against Port Vale.
