Likely strike force

Andyhsufc

Director
I think the only strike force combination out of Barnard, Red rum, Walks and furlong that is likely to work is Barnard and Walker because -

Barnard + Furlong = No pace
Barnard + Revell = No pace
Walker + Furlong = Goals?
Walker + Revell = Goals?

What do other people feel will be our first choice strike force next year?

I can see Barnard and Furlong working just fine. You're right that they won't be the quickest, but I'd think they'd both play right on the centre-backs anyway- Furlong causing trouble with his strength, Barnard with his movement. couple of quick wingers would be a great addition though- hopefully Scannell can fill one of those spots.

Wouldnt be surprised if we sign another one or maybe two strikers bearing in mind Barney and Revells injury problems and Furlongs age.

We have been missing a big bustling Centre Forward for some while now, whether Furlong will be able to do this , I don't know, but a physical presence in the box will certainly help Barney and may well help the goals from midfield tally reach last seasons levels as defenders panic as they just want to "get rid" as opposed to having a bit more time

I don't know about revell.
I reckon he will be last choice striker.
Another forward will be on his way as well.

Any 2 of Walker, Barnard & Furlong should work well.
Barnard & Furlong, may not have pace but their would still work well together as Loz suggests I think.
Walker will work well with either as he adds pace.
As for Revell I'm not sure who he'd work best with.

barney and furlong have pace upstairs, barney with his footballing mind and furlong with his experience. to be honest i could see furlong out pacing most of the defenders in this league still anyway... maybe walker will be tillys next striker turned winger

I think Barnard and Furlong will work well, Walker on the wing if we don't sign any others and Gower goes.

Still think we'll sign another striker though.

Barnard & Walker... Personally can't see any penetration with Barnard & Furlong who both have no pace at all! Furlong I hope will be used as an impact sub which he accommodate quite well.

Eastwood wasn't exactly a greyhound & Goater had the speed of an asthmatic tortoise suffering from smoke inhalation.

Reckon T&B are modelling our front line on that old pairing & will play Barney & Furlong as 1st choice..

Indeed, with Walker in the Wayne Gray role, and Revell as back up for injury.

Not 'free' - he will cost you..

Wouldn't hold your breath tho because we seem to be in a prolonged argument with Brentford about another one of our Strikers, Charlie McDonald, over wanting another £5-10k for him.

Our Chairman seems to like the old phrase "Look after the pennies..."
(he also hates agents with a passion)

You should have Hooper signed & sealed by Xmas 2010 once all negotiations have been concluded...

Maybe Walker and Furlong to start, the strong and the quick striker combination has always been a favourite, and Barnard from the bench to mix things up.

Also Revell for an option out wide, and to play a similar role to Furlong up the middle as I'm dubious that he will last for the whole 90 mins.

Sounds good to me, but I can't help feeling there will be another arriving........

Barnard will be our top scorer next season providing he stays fit; he just needs a foil to play off of (Furlong could be that man).

Walker looks like a 10 goal a season player at best IMAO with Revell getting 5 or 6.
Harrold can kiss my fat one...

That's my main worry about starting him every week. I have visions of the half time substution.

I thought to start with, use him as a second half impact type player. Thinking of the amount of goals Solskjaer used to score coming off the bench......
