Southend United's Under-18s gained their first win of the season this morning as they defeated Leyton Orient 2-1. Teddy Nesbitt put Blues' Youths in front in the 27th minute when he chipped Orient goalkeeper Tom Lovelock. Chris Benjamin levelled for Orient after 62 minutes, but James Stevens' penalty - awarded when George Smith was upended - three minutes later gave the young Shrimpers all three points at the Whitbread's Sports Ground in Woodford Green.

The Under-18s are next in action on Saturday, 28th August, when they host Dagenham & Redbridge in the Football League Youth Alliance League South-East Conference in an 11:00am kick-off at Boots & Laces. With the first-team in action the previous night at Bradford City, it would be great to see some Shrimpers supporters at the club's training ground to get behind the stars of tomorrow.
