Lets get behind tilly!

Winkle

Manager
When you look back over the season the league does not lie does it? We have showed brief glimces of skill and some games of total domination but in reality we have flattered to deceive and been generally very poor. We can all point the finger (including me) and it does not matter how we gloss it up our club is in trouble. I said at the start of the season we did not have any quality in the side and it has come to fuition with us getting relegated to the bottom tear of english football.
However bad we are all feeling at the moment we must as fans try and regroup so that our stay in league 2 is as breif as our stay was in the championship. Tilly is the man to get us up and hopefully like bournemouth we can get a group of young hungry players wearing the shirt next season.
Please tilly.....No more loan signing, no more has beens its time for youth. Build a side on work ethic and passing and we will attract good players not the mediocre ones we have at the moment. We will have no money to spend which I think can be a good thing as It will be down to coaching and getting the best out of players rather than paying thousands on a maybe or a crock.

I would prefer somebody else in charge

Dont usually agree with most of what you post on here but for once im with you on this one. Think that after all his time in charge Tilson is still very tactically naive. He is always slow to try and change things when tactics arent working and I dont like playing players way out of position, and before people say he didnt have any choice with the small squad and injuries I beg to differ many times he did have options but chose not to use them. When we played Walsall at home I thought Grant and Macca had their best games they combined so well. When 1 went forward the other dropped back to cover for him it was very much like the Macca, Bailey combination so what happens next game Christophe is slotted straight back in and Grant pushed out wide again why if it aint broke dont fix it. Im afraid Tilson slots the so called big players straight back in every time. Also even when Laurent has been available we have on several occasions played him as a striker when he is far more effective on the wing especailly at home when we have to break teams down. Tilson is not the bravest manager and there have been times now and in the past when he who dares wins and we have missed so many chances when a bit of bravery could have won us many points.

surely (with appropriate funds for a league 2 manager) next season is the one to accurately judge tilly, I desperately hope he proves his credentials next year, as tbh, having an ex southend player, and a succesfull manager who cares about the town and the club, is a rare commodity, and dream scenario. As has been demonstrated on another thread, he inherited a squad with a fair amount of talent in it, and (along with brush) bought in players (on a budget) to fill the gaps and create one of the most successful sufc teams in history,
He needs to repeat this next year.

Think 1 of the main reasons that Laurent has been played upfront is that sometimes we need a striker who runs at defences and uses his pace to attack them, something the like of Vernon, Paterson and Spencer, Spencer arguably does it most but he is more about making the right runs, he doesn't run at defences with the ball. Vernon and Paterson hold it up and hardly ever do it so we need Laurent up their sometimes to get at their defence until we bring someone in who does that.
Scannell on the right wing in League 2 will be something to look forward, I think his pace and skill will tear defences apart, he's not as good as Laurent at many things but he lacks the silly mistakes that Laurent makes and also appears to be fitter a lot of the time, Laurent hardly ever makes an impact after an hour into the game.
This summer and our signings will determine our season, Tilly needs to do what he did when he first came here and make some good signings on the cheap/free, hopefully with loanees only as a last resort to give our side some stability.
The most frustrating thing with Tilly is his refusal to make subs early enough to make an impact on the game, when games are crying out for a type of player that we have and he waits until the 70/75th minute to even consider it, hopefully a forward thinking assistant manager could help change some of his downfalls.

Tilly is at a cross roads. If he has the opportunity to sort out the sqaud and do his own thing and we still dont get promoted then i think he should go , but he did best when he had a low budget so lets see what happens.
