South Bank Hank

⭐⭐🦐
Today is Mrs Bank-Hank's last day at her current place of employment. She starts a new job on Tuesday.

She has approached me this morning with somewhat of a dilemma. On one's last day at a job, is it considered etiquette to buy cakes for the office? My view is that you take cakes in only on your birthday. I've never known people to take cakes in on their leaving day, but am happy to admit that I may be completely wrong.

Ooh the tension at Bank-Hank Towers...

Surely as it's her last day there, the others should take in things?

Cakes are only for birthdays!

On my last day of work, I took in nothing, and got a silver necklace and bracelet as a leaving present.

I don't care who's leaving, who's died, who's going on maternity leave or who's birthday it is, I buy cakes for one person only - me.

Oops, missed out that she works part-time and doesn't go into work until this afternoon. That's why she's asking now whether she should get the cakes.

Anyway, thanks guys. You've confirmed my thoughts.

I'm sure the whip-round will have taken place but she's such a people pleaser, she didn't want to do the wrong thing.

(I've sent her to the shops now to get ME some cakes!)

Anyone not getting them on their birthday is scum of the earth but just leaving no. She should get a gift from them with no reply.

Have to disagree with that - I don't care what people think is "office etiquette", why should I buy cakes for people I don't like?

If you don't play the game you will get plenty of 'envelope flickers' when you leave your current job and they do a collection.

Cakes are for Birthdays leaving do you get a card & maybe a prezzie then you buy the first round in the pub & get mullered from all the next rounds. Thats been my experience

Noticed its your birthday. Cakes all round on here then?
