Over the years the fortunes of League 2, or division 3 clubs comming up has been hugely varied.

We can take Cardiff and Brighton as examples of how well they do, and Hull.

On the other hand there is Torquay, comming straight back down (but they didnt deserve to go up in the 1st place)

Also there are those that do alright - Doncaster and Chesterfield (admitted both now struggling)

The year Cardiff, Brighton and Chesterfield went up was a very strong group, and two of them are now above league one. It is in my opinion that the group of Yeovil, Sc**thorpe United, Swansea City and Southend United, is the strongest group of teams that has gone up in recent years, which led me to believe in the summer that we could be the most succesful group ever.

There is always one of the promoted teams who flop, i thought that would be Yeovil, because it would be harder for them to score this season, and the ammount of late goals they scored last season would not happen again, as the luck would dry up, but the other three of us could do ok.

Looking at the league table we are 2nd, 4th and 6th...

......Thats playoff material

PROUD TO BE FROM LEAGUE TWO

True but might as well blow our own trumpet while we have the chance!

If memory serves me right Torquay finished 3rd with an ever-slightly better record than Huddersfield in 4th and over the course of a season the table doesn't lie - they fully deserved promotion to L1.

My point was that they beat us on the last day of the season, to just go up, cos Huddersfield drew. Torquay never deserved the win that afternoon, we had a goal disallowed aswell, in the 2-1 defeat.

Good point and well made.

I maybe wrong but i recall that when we made the leap to division two (Championship now) in 90/91 we were promted with Cambridge, Grimsby & Tranmere.

If memory serves me well both Cambridge & Grimsby both came up with us the previous year from division 4.

Dudders was blatantly took down in the box as well. I think MtS put up a picture of it at the time and it was obvious he was tripped in the box and the defender was nowhere near the ball...

...anyway!

What do you make of the rest of their points?

Why wouldn't they have won the playoffs if they got as many points as Huddersfield?

They pretty much went down because their squad was much too small, they lost their leading scorer and in dessperation, paid a six figure sum for a player with one good season under his belt in league 2. Add to that a goalkeeper going AWOL and them regularly struggling to even get a matchday squad due to the dissolution of reserve and youth teams. They did well to do as they did and were only relegated by a stunning long range strike in the MK game.
