Lawson dumped by Grays

He really wasn't mighty though. In fact I always felt that he was destined for a career at the very bottom of the pyramid. No pace, no strength and no obvious footballing ability.

& this thread should be in ex-shrimpers...:finger:

I hear Rayleigh Town are looking for less than prolific Strikers.

Oh...what memories.

I remember when he scored 3 goals in 2 games- coincedentally prompting interest from West Ham and Charlton.

Ohhhhh those were the days.:hilarious:

i thought he had an excellent touch and a good eye for goal. he wasn't the quickest or strongest but he always looked like he had some ability but not the mental strength to really progress. shame because he could have been a good player if he worked hard (plus it was him instead of kights if i remember correctly)

So what you're saying is Tilson Out because he let Kights go?

Why must you keep bringing that up? Kights has gone, just leave it now Josh!

Lawson was a year behind Kights so I don't think it was ever suggested by the Club that keeping Lawson on meant getting rid of Kights.

Keeping Kightly or signing Mitchell Cole was more likely the choice we had and I do not remember a single person on here suggesting that the club had made an error at the time.

No! Don't say that! You'll start off all the 'Tilly is a crap judge of player because we let Kights go' posts!

Whilst he had no pace and no strength, he did at least have a footballing brain as evidenced by his good movement. He played a small but significant part in our title winning season and I wish him well.

i never said that, and at the time i didn't see anything to suggest kightly could go on to be the player he is now. my point is that footballers can quickly change (from a prospect to rubbish like lawson, or the other way around in kightlys case).

agreed... he did really well when called upon and arguably kick-started our run up the table. scored 2 goals in two games (both wins) and at the time i don't really remember people saying he was conference south at best, more likely a decent lower league striker if he worked hard

The following season he was our best striker in pre-season, but Bradbury and Eastwood started the season and he couldn't even get a place on the bench.

Lawson is still at Grays though? He played in an internal friendly for them today.
