Latest New on THEEEEEO! not good!

The Watford transfer merry-go-round has begun with a Scotland international due to arrive and the club set to receive some much-needed cash for two outgoing Hornets.

The Watford Observer understands Aberdeen captain Scott Severin will sign for the club on a free transfer and Lee Williamson will be joining Theo Robinson in leaving Vicarage Road.

Williamson has signed for Sheffield United for around £500,000, although the two clubs refused to disclose the figure.

However, Watford have confirmed they rejected a bid from a Championship club for goalscoring midfielder John-Joe O’Toole, also believed to be the Blades.

New signing Severin will add experience to the Watford squad.
He has not been part of recent Scotland squads but has made 14 appearances for his country and played 40 times for Aberdeen last season.

The 30-year-old midfielder, who can play in numerous positions, started his career at Hearts, making 175 appearances, before switching to Aberdeen in 2004.

Severin’s arrival may not be announced for a couple of weeks but we understand everything has been completed and his arrival was welcomed by the in-coming manager, believed to be Malky Mackay.

Williamson’s departure to Sheffield United was set to be announced as we went to press but Robinson’s move to Swindon Town is unlikely to be concluded for at least another week as the striker is out of the country.
The 20-year-old had a choice between Swindon and Brighton & Hove Albion, who both offered around £200,000 for the striker, a fee which could rise to £275,000 with additional add-ons based on appearances and promotion.

Southend United, where Robinson scored seven goals in 21 games while on loan this year, were interested in the Birmingham-born striker but could not afford to match the figure.

The transfers are the first of many expected at Watford and chairman Jimmy Russo said: "There will be other players leaving and new arrivals and we will have a squad the size the manager requests, within our budget."
Former Watford manager Brendan Rodgers is believed to be considering a move for talisman Tommy Smith and defender Mike Williamson, who the ex-Chelsea Reserve team boss only signed in January.
Russo said: "I have made it quite clear that any approach for any of our players must come through the club."

agreed. but Theo played well for us at the end of last season and added something different to the attack. Shame, would have liked him here.

Hoofball? No thanks.

He was a good player and would have been a great acquisition but I wouldn't go and break the bank to get him here. Defence is more important and I would rather spend 150k each on two decent defenders.

Looking increasingly like mid table mediocrity then for next season.
We have no 20 plus strikers, and no pace. This will have a knock on effect regarding turnover. Hope I'm wrong.

Maybe I'm overly optimistic, but a healthy run for Dougie & Barney will scare the pants out of Norwich / Southampton / Charlton etc.....

Healthy run for dougie and barny where on earth do you think that is coming from. Not knocking your oprimism Butttttt it aint gonna happen

I think that is too much money for us to spend on Theo, and if we did, and he didn't bang in 20+ next season, there'd be loads of peeps on here going mental at Tilly and Ron for wasting all the money.

Again, thank you Theo for last season, but that's too much to pay.

I think a fit combo of Barney, Dougie and Laurent could fire us in to the playoffs no problem. (I do know the FIT part is the problem....)

If a move for Theo is dead in the water, like it appears, I still think we'd need a pacy striker in. We have no pace in our team, bar Walker and I can't see him being here come the start of the season.

A player I'd love us to sign is Billy Clarke who has been released from Ipswich. I know his not a pacy striker, but he sure knows where the back of the net is.

I have faith that Laurent will come good for us, he just need an good pre-season training with us, he got the pace, power, skills and can get us at least 15 goals or more easily, his talent should easily play at higher level than League 1.

He was my best player on Fifa 2009!

I would rather us pay out £275K for a decent Centre Back and then worry about 20+ goals a season when we can be sure we won't be leaking 3 or 4 per game.

Whilst Theo is an exciting prospect as has been pointed out we have strikers, for me we just don't supply them with what they need (to an extent this was the same with Theo last season) hoofing it at any of our front pairings and expecting it to stick wasn't working. We need people in midfield with a bit of vision and a decent pass to pick out a run, Laurent needs a ball to feet to run on to, not a 30 to 40 yard punt from the back. He is at his best with the ball at his feet running at players. Some moan the Laurent is always caught offside, but watch him and you'll see he actually made the run at the right time. Its just our midfield don't seem to know that he's on the move, by the time they do look up and see his run and then 4 strides later let the pass go he's gone past the last man. OK so he could check his run and the restart but by then he's lost the steal on the defence and gets clattered. As has been well documented on here we need that Gower style of player (or an in-form Maher, dare I say it) that knows his strikers attributes and feeds them accordingly. I think we need players in other positions more than the famed 20+ a season man.

Also its nice to see that our season is being written off already, I would be worried if the transfer window was shutting next week but it isn't so lets just see what happens.

more assumptions, just becasue we didn't offer it does not mean we can not afford it. Would MU pay £1 million for Theo--- no, could they afford it, yes

sorry, got that off my chest now- starting to get peeeed off at all the anti SUFC management stuff on here -- yes I know , its par for the course at this time of year

Disappointed about Theo but not distraught by any means.
We were very unfortunate with the injuries to our strikers last year, I agree with the above that a fit Barney, Dougie, Laurent and Revell given the right service, will be able to bang in the goals to put us near the top half - providing the defensive issues are sorted - and with still 7-8 weeks to the start of the season, I think the doom merchants on here are being a little too quick in getting carried away.

Healthy run for dougie and barny where on earth do you think that is coming from. Not knocking your oprimism Butttttt it aint gonna happen

With regard to the above Jersey - no striker likes being injured, scoring goals is how they make their living.
Not sure how you know already that Dougie and Barney won't be fit - are you Mystic Meg?
If so can you post tonight's winning Lotto numbers?
Thanks ;)

'Peeps' wouldn't need to wait all season for that. I'm sure they'd start if he didn't score 20 after his first month of footy.

Totally agree with the opinion of Dougie, Barney, Laurent and dont forget Christophe. The one main prioblem especially with Dougie and Barney is FITNESS!!!

We all know they can score but can they stay fit enough to make an impact on the season ahead.

Also agree about Theo. It would be good to get him, but we really need to sort out defence and quickly. Either got to promote youn Johnny Heard, who IMO is ready and deserves the chance to shine. A Centre back is what we need now we have a vacant spot. Barrett needs a strong character next to him. Thats the priority.

Stop the goals leaking and keep the strikers fit and the season could be so different. A good old fashioned english double hard B**tard or a French one will do!!!!
