Last night

Got invited by my local professional football club to the pub last night. A small group of us from different groups of supporters. We were given beer, food and asked our 'honest' opinion.

The club didn't get much right last season, finishing second bottom of the league and crowds are down. They are now planning for next season and asked us about marketing ideas, ideas to get the atmosphere better and much more.

Just thinking, would this ever happen at Southend United? Should it happen more? When you read this forum you can see there are plenty of us with expertise and experience in different areas as well as a passion for the club - shame that's not being tapped into more IMO

This does happen now. A number of fans have been invited for their feedback over the past year or so, especially in terms of the new stadium - with the new seats (inc built in video replays) on display.. All have been spoilt with a nice buffet and wine too...

It has also been apparent on a number of occassions that the club do monitor this board and by consequence are able to consider suggestions....

I was flicking through my copy of A Century United (that's the book not the ShrimperZoner) last night and was reminded of how totally depressing the era immediately pre-Steve Tilson was. I really hope we are not going back to those days.

Going back to Rob Newman's tenure as boss, I went with Scriv and Javea Shrimper ( that shows how long ago the meeting was ) representing ShrimperZone to Roots Hall to grill Buzz Lightyear who was ably assisted at the meeting by Tilly and David Crown.

We had a frank exchange of views as the team was on a bad run of results. Following our meeting the team then went a winning run.

Perhaps we should all meet up again !
