First XI
LAst night's Q&A at the Rendezvous Casino was quite interesting. Due to my drunken state I can only remember a few bits but here goes

1. Tilly said that the best half time team talk given by Fat Fry was when he kicked a full cup of hot tea over Mick Bodley.

2. Tilly said that he was thinking of resting the Goat for Saturday's game.

3.  Tilly and Brush pack the kit themselves before an away game because we can't afford a kit man.

4.  Ron Martin made it clear that there was no way Eastwood would be sold in January.

5.  Tilly said that his proudest moments as a player were back to back promotions with David Webb.

6.  Tilly would love to bring Chris Powell back to Roots Hall. He spoke to Powell during the close season but was unable to reach a deal. Tilly does not rule it out in the future.

7. As stated on another thread The ground issue should be resolved by Xmas.

8.  New 3 year deals should be agreed with Tilly and Brush by Monday. Ron Martin did state that had their agents asked he would have been persuaded to give 5 year deals! I think he was having a little swipe at Tilly and Brush for using agents when they themselves don't like dealing with players agents.

I am sure there was more but by this stage the alcohol was getting the better of me.

sounds like poor old Bods was always getting bollocked by Fry - they had a little fracas on that Sky One 'Managers From Hell' or whatever it was programme, when they were at Barnet

Fry - 'giving up already Bods?! waving the white flag?! '

Bods - 'F*CK OFF!!'

With Chrissy out of the Charlton side and them looking to bring in JLoyd Samuel at LB in the January window does anyone get the impression with us riding high that we might see a return to Roots Hall for one of Southend's favourite sons?

That would be a fairytale come true. could you imagine the reception he would get! Legend of Southend and a top bloke as well.

Not being funny but I thought Powell said in the summer that it was better not to come back.... or maybe it was my imagination!

He defintely said that. I did agree with him at the time but now there may be a very distant remote chance that he may come back I reserve the right to change my mind.

Fair enough. I certainly wouldn't be complaining if Mr. Powell was to return!

the only man I can remember getting 3 standing ovations in one afternoon. One when he gave some awards to some kids before the game, twice when he walked round the pitch to sit with FrankieBanks in with the kids in the west stand and three times when he did the return journey. Complete and utter legend.

Yeah, but I also seem to remember him saying in the same article, "never say never".

Here's hoping...

That's certainly what he said.

We did a Q+A with him last season. He doesn't want to dampen the memories by returning, but never say never.

Well that went out of the window by returning to Charlton.

Good feedback but the news that Freddy is staying is a clear disappointment.
