Last minute holidays

having had to cancel our original holiday due to a family illness, the missus and I have been perusing for a new holiday at the end of july. we're happily scanning websites and going into shops but in the end it's pretty hard to know if we have got a good deal... and we're not very fussy

so people of SZ, do you know any good websites or tips about bagging a good last minute deal, is it worth looking to book now, about a month in advance, or should we take a chance and book the week before and pick up our tickets in advance?

If you go to the travel agents with packed cases and say you can leave this minute you're bound to get something.

Might be two weeks in Scunthorpe, but hey ho?

Depends where you want to go, and what you want to do.

Mrs BB and myself picked up 11 days in a 5* hotel in Egypt last year for £800 each all-inclusive. Booked it about 2 weeks before. That was via Thomas Cook.

nice one... were looking for a greek island, self catering, good location and not too rowdy. i think being fairly flexible we'll wait a bit and keep looking for a bargain

I can recommend a place in Santorini, if you're not too fussed about flight times for £658 for 2 for 7 days from 15 July Flight out at 7 am from gatwick, gets back at 3am 23rd July (that's the worst bit about it.)

Edit - if you only take 15kilos of luggage each it comes down to less than £300 each, and it's well worth it !

If that sounds good PM me and I'll give you more details.

There's one called On The Beach which normally has cheap deals

Yeah Ive used them before - kids go free with them you just have to pay for flights... website is otbeach.com

We got wed in St Lucia last year and we booked with a site called theholidayplace.co.uk - they arranged everything and were very helpful - plus I went back and forth between them and Virgin to get the best deal and they beat em everytime to get the business!! I'd use em again but think they are more for worldwide holidays than Europe....
